Mark Cavendish is on the shortlist for BBC’s 2009 UK Sports Personality of the Year for his record six stage wins in this year’s Tour de France. It doesn’t hurt the cause that his win in the final stage made him the first Briton to win on the Champs-Elysees. We share BikeBiz’s lament that Victoria Pendleton, Steve Peat and Bradley Wiggins aren’t also on the list, but at least cyclists are represented.
