Mavic is no stranger to the dirt, but until now hasn’t offered a high-end gravel-specific carbon wheel set. That changes now with their new Allroad Pro Carbon SL and SL+ wheels. Featuring all-new carbon construction, diameter-specific rim widths, and UST tubeless compatibility, they’re taking Mavic’s gravel game to the next level.

Mavic Allroad Pro Carbon SL & SL+ gravel wheels

Mavic has been on a roll lately in the road, all-road, and gravel scene, having recently debuted new stand-alone rim options for wheel builders. While those rims will work great for aftermarket builds, these new complete wheels from Mavic feature unique, purpose-built rims for gravel.

Two new flagship wheels are available – the 700c Allroad Pro Carbon SL, and the 650b Allroad Pro Carbon SL+. First, let’s start with the similarities between the two wheels. Both feature the same hubs with 12mm front and rear thru axles, with end caps available for QR or front 15mm. Disc brake rotors mount up via the Shimano Center Lock standard.

The rear hub uses Mavic’s Instant Drive 360 engagement system, and is available with all Shimano HG 11-speed, Campagnolo, or SRAM XDR freehubs.

Both wheels feature 24 bladed steel spokes front and rear, which were chosen for their ride quality compared to aluminum spokes. One spoke has a yellow-painted edge, staying consistent with Mavic’s penchant for spoke flair.

As for the rims, both 700c and 650b options feature hookless, UST-tubeless designs, but that’s where the similarities stop. The 700c SL model has a 23mm internal width, optimized for 28 – 62mm tires. The 650b SL+ model has a 26mm internal width, best mated with 44 – 60mm tires.

If you buy the 700c SL model, Mavic includes a pair of the 35mm Yksion Allroad tires, which have a low tread pattern and tubeless compatability.

The 650b Allroad Pro Carbon SL+ does not include tires, but the demo pair we checked out was shod with 47mm WTB tires.

Weight for the 700c SL is 1,445 grams per pair, while the 650b SL+ tips the scales at 1,550 grams. Both retail for $2,100 USD (including tires for the 700c model). There’s no official availability date yet, but we expect them during the summer of 2019.

Waiting for the new DT SWISS gravel rims, the GR531db.
They do have 24mm internal width, weight 535g. Are there any more news, pictures …? Would be great!

I like the technical aspects of these Mavic All Road Carbon Pro SL wheels. For the weight, the price seems a much better value than the prohibitively expensive Zipp or Enve.
