Meander Apparel is a Scottish clothing brand that launched in 2018 with a cycle commuter jacket. The brand was born out of frustration with performance clothing that wasn’t stylish and versatile enough to be worn off the bike. Meander place the environment at the heart of the business, focusing on products using sustainable eco-friendly materials that last.
We take a look at their latest collection of fashionable adventure wear. Profits from the collection go to the NHS charities together campaign and the WHO Covid-19 Response fund whilst the UK is in lockdown.
Meander Apparel 2020 Collection
Jill and Steve Henry, founders of Meander Apparel, are firm believers that the best things the fashion industry can do to be more sustainable is to make less product and for that product to last longer. This is why Meander guarantee their products and offer a lifetime repair service, ensuring each item has as long a life cycle as possible.
The new collection uses eco-friendly materials, using low impact and natural fabrics such as recycled polyester, organic cotton and kapok.
Meander Adventure Trouser
The Meander Adventure trouser is designed as a smart yet comfortable trouser with 4-way stretch and water-resistant fabric. This is Meander’s most popular garment for cycle commuting, available for both men and women.
The fabric features water repellent and heat retention technology. The reflective pocket at the rear is a subtle technical detail that helps keep you visible when cycling on the road. Pick up a pair for £89.
Meander Weekender Tee
The 2020 Meander Apparel collection includes a range of super soft t-shirts composed of cashmere blended with Eco Dri-Release yarns that wick moisture. These technical Weekender Tees are designed to keep you cool and dry on the bike but smart enough for the bar or cafe you’re headed to.
The fabric is said to be quick drying. Added antibacterial technology treatment prevents odour, meaning you can cycle to the office without needing to change when you get there. The Meander Weekender Tee is available in cuts for both men and women. Pricing starts at £59.
Meander Nomad Bomber
Also new for 2020 is the Meander Nomad Bomber jacket. This waterproof and breathable cycle commuter jacket is crafted from Italian Wool in Portugal. The outer features a waterproof membrane, and a fold down reflective panel helps keep you visible on the bike.
The breathable lining is made with recycled polyester, tencel and kapok – a sustainable organic fabric which is naturally antibacterial and hypoallergenic. The Nomad Bomber is available for both men and women, in an XXS-XXL size range. It retails at £245.
The Meander Jacket
Though not part of the 2020 collection, it would be remiss of us not to mention the Meander Jacket, the brand’s first offering to cycle commuters.
The cycle commuter jacket is made from fabric created by a mill in the Como region of Italy. The fabric has the look and feel of a luxury fashion jacket but is also highly windproof, breathable and waterproof, with a rating of over 10,000mm.
Designed to be adaptable in changing weather conditions, the Meander jacket packs into its large rear pocket and can be used as a backpack or messenger bag using the included straps. Meander also offer an optional saddle bag kit to attach to your bike. Pick up the jacket for £198 and the saddle bag for £19.95.
Meander Apparel: An eco-friendly clothing brand for cycle commuters
Meander Apparel go above and beyond to ensure their products are the embodiment of what it means to be eco-friendly and sustainable. All Meander clothing is produced in European factories with 99% European sourced materials. So, the majority of transportation is by road, using 60-88% less energy than air transport.
In partnership with Forest Carbon, Meander Apparel plant trees in local Scottish Woodlands to fully offset their carbon emissions.
The use of Polygiene, an antibacterial ingredient, across the entire jersey collection means the garments can be washed less. Polygiene treated textiles do not need to be washed as often, saving water, energy, time and money as well as improving the lifespan of a product.
Finally, Meander Apparel are members of “1% for the planet”, donating 1% of sales to environmental charities.
