There’s a new player in the UK’s commuter bike market, Milk Bikes. With sights set on a low/no maintenance bike, Milk was co-founded by a full-time bicycle commuter who wanted to “design and produce bikes to make commuting by bike better.”

The prototypes feature a Gates belt drive (with a trick “belt port” designed into the seatstay, seen above), Shimano Alfine internal-geared hub, a dynamo driven front light and mechanical disc brakes.

Belt tension is achieved via an eccentric bottom bracket. They also have a replacement dropout, that is available with or without (pictured above) a derailluer hanger to offer even more traditional chain/gear setup options.

They hope to have frames available to the public by spring, with some custom build options as well. Check out their Flickr and blog to keep up with their  progress.
