Mondraker dropped their new 2020 mountain bike lineup, led out by a new longer travel, more hardcore carbon Foxy enduro bike – now dubbed the Super Foxy. Combining the best of the lightweight efficiency of the Foxy and the descending prowess & adjustability of the Dune, this new Super Foxy becomes Mondraker’s new all-in-one aggressive trail slayer – bridging the gap between all-mountain & EWS-level enduro racing.
2020 Mondraker Super Foxy Carbon 160mm enduro 29er
Mondraker’s carbon Foxy all-mountain/enduro bike was a pioneer of the long, low & slack geometry that has since come to define modern trail bikes over the last few years – they call it Forward Geometry. That combined with the distinctive look of the full carbon frame and efficient performance of the short-link four-bar Zero Suspension System has made the Foxy a sought after bike for aggressive trail riding for more than five years.
And now those bigger wheels get a completely updated Super Foxy big brother with more travel – now 160mm of reshaped kinematics optimized for modern high-performance, high-volume air and coil shocks.
What’s new in the Super Foxy Carbon?
The 150mm Foxies in 27.5 or 29er carry over for a mix of all-mountain into enduro riding. But for proper enduro racing the new Super Foxy Carbon offers a more capable, lightweight alternative to Mondraker’s burly, longer travel Dune Carbon super enduro bike.
The new Super Foxy gets 160mm of rear wheel travel with the same pedaling efficiency of the shorter trail bike, and its same lightweight Stealth Air carbon construction. While the old & new bikes look much the same, Mondraker reshaped the four-bar suspension kinematics to work with the latest crop of high-volume air shocks, as well as the resurgence of performance trail bike coil shocks.
That means a more supple early shock stroke, becoming more progressive through its travel. The super bike also gets a new one-piece full carbon rocker link for those new trunnion mount shocks.
Beyond those hard to spot updates, the Super Foxy also adds the adjustable geometry of Mondraker’s gravity bikes, with a dropout flip chip to tune chainstay length by 10 mm (440 or 450mm), and multi-position headset cups to adjust headtube angle +/-1° from its standard 65° (adjustable geo kit comes with the bikes).
The Super Foxy gets a stiffer & wider reinforced carbon rear triangle to go with that extra travel. The new super bike adopts SuperBoost 12×157 spacing (of course, right?) on top of the adjustable chainstay length to adapt to more technical enduro racing.
The 160mm Super Foxy frame gets paired with 170mm travel, shorter 44mm offset Boost forks for a balanced ride in technical terrain. The new bike is 1x specific, developed for wide-range 12-speed drivetrains, and uses Mondraker’s continuous hidden housing guide (HHG) internal cable routing system for an easy-to-use, rattle-free setup. It also gets a new silent ribbed, molded soft rubber chainstay protector to all but eliminate any noise of chain slap.
The new frame features new 15mm oversized axles at the main suspension pivots, and Enduro Max sealed bearings throughout. The Super Foxy uses a 73mm threaded bottom bracket, with ISCG05 tabs, an internal 1.5″ tapered headset, two-position post mount rear brake, and 31.6mm seatpost with internal dropper routing.
The new Super Foxy Carbon will be available in two different specs sharing the same long-reach carbon frameset in four sizes (S-XL) with 30mm stems. Both get top-spec 170mm Fox 36 Float Factory gold Kashima-coated forks, Shimano 1×12 drivetrains, RaceFace cranks, 200mm SRAM Code brakes & 30mm internal DT Swiss alloy wheels wrapped in Maxxis Minion DHF/R EXO tires.
The blue 8500€ Super Foxy Carbon RR gets an XTR setup with a Fox DHX2 Factory coil shock, and a claimed weight of 14.4kg (31.74lb)
The white 6500€ Super Foxy Carbon R goes with XT and a Fox Float X2 Performance air shock at the same claimed weight.
Both new bikes will be available to pre-order in September, with availability expected in late 2019.
