Chris akrigg a winters hard tail

What’s Mongoose to do when they have a new 27.5+ bike to sell? Get it into the hands of the expert Chris Akrigg, of course. Known for riding any bike they can throw at him better than most mortals, at this point Akrigg is pretty adept at capturing the essence of the bikes he’s pedaling. In the midst of a cold and very wet winter in Yorkshire, England, Akrigg is making the most of it by bouncing around on a Mongoose Ruddy 27.5+ hardtail…

From Chris:

Winter time in Yorkshire can be a pretty rough place to ride, but if you attack it with the right attitude and plenty of clobber on, for me its some of the best fun you can have on a bike. So this is me laiking (playing) about in the cold and wet aboard the Mongoose Ruddy 27.5 + hardtail..

My takeaway: it looks exhausting and not that fun.

I have recently sold my FS carbon trail bike will all the carbon and highend parts… and bought a 29+ Trek Stashe (alloy hardtail frame). I’m now having more fun on this bike then any MTB I’ve ever owned. It rides like monster truck since I can go anywhere up of down on this sucker. Before this bike I did not like 29er bikes since they felt slow in the handling category. However I seems I did not ride a 29er with the correct geometry (I have more of a BMX back ground). Now I’m riding this 29er plus bike and can not believe what a blast it is (short wheel base geometry).

Would now like to try a 27+ hard tail to see the difference. I’m over FS bikes where I live since it’s not crazy rocky, just steep and rutty. The plus tires are just enough to smooth out the trails yet climb excellent. I call my plus bike a “full suspension hardtail” since it’s the best of both worlds.

I’m not that good of a rider and can’t do all the trick he does, but going down the rider like that is loads of fun and I do it all the time. its not that hard or particularly exhausting (i mean, unless you find doing any sport exhausting then you’ve another problem)

Great video. It shows how much fun biking can be. The riding is good. The cameraman / editor / whomever, gets praise as well.

Rad clip, Akrigg is showing the potential of 27.5+ wheels/tires on a hardtail.

@charango- you’re right, it exhausting enough to warrant a well earned post-ride beer. But don’t hate cause it’s not your brand of fun. Chris Akrigg has an awesome stoke level in every video I have seen him in.

@bikeduder- It’s not that huge of a suspension fork, looks like a Fox 34 27.5+ set at 120mm. If that doesn’t convince you check out this older one of his ripping it up on (and having a heck of a lot of fun) a whole lotta different bikes:

First segment should advertise Sealzkins socks !
@bikeduder watch his other videos if this one isn’t enough for you…it’s not about the fork, but the man!

Crazy how much nicer that bike looks without a ridiculously Loooooong stem spec’d on it. Does Mongoose think this is 1997 still?

Also, might help their consumer direct approach to actually have the bike on their website before putting out marketing for the bike.

The Buzz that this video created and the opportunity it provides someone interested in a low cost Plus bike to check out is a very small window.

Awesome video! Anybody who criticizes him for using a suspension fork is nuts, and I’d like to see them duplicate just one of Chris’s many tricks on any bike. And double kudos for doing it when it’s so wet and slippery out!

@ Chris – Is totally correct. What a lost opportunity to get everyone excited then have nothing even close on their site. As soon as I saw the video I went to their site and was disappointed. All this effort just to potentially bum people out. Sales and marketing in reverse.

Once you go WalMart….. you never come back! While watching the video I had the thought that I haven’t seen an actual Mongoose (bike) in the wild since the mid-90’s. It made me wonder if they were going to try selling to the cycling public again or just try to get Wally World shoppers on a 27.5+. It sounds as though we’re all wondering the same.
