Predator Barstem 1
Predator Cycling is known for being one of a very few carbon fiber repair shops in the country (Ruckus being another).  But they do so much more.  At NAHBS they were happily showing off both bikes and components.

The first thing I noticed at the Predator booth was not their full carbon road bike, and it wasn’t their custom carbon belt drive cyclocross racer.  It was, in fact, The Major, their barstem combo that retails at a starting price of $600.  This barstem combo is unique in its construction.  It utilizes an inner joint made of ballistics kevlar that really helps kill road vibration.  The outer joint is then made of high modulus carbon fiber, and can even include an outer kevlar weave for added color like the red pictured above.  Any composite stem and bar can be used, but the stock option starts with an ENVE stem and FSA SL-K bar.

Hit the jump for Predator’s bikes and their pressfit seat mast / saddle combo, plus the bikes from Shamrock Cycles…

Predator Custom Carbon Road Frame Seatmast

For the ultimate weigh weenies out there, here is your saddle.  This thin, yet flexible, carbon shell of a seat is permanently mated to a seat mast cap.  That setup is then press fit onto a Predator road frame seat mast.  Average weight of the saddle is a whopping 58g.

Predator Custom Carbon Road Frame

Predator can turn out full frames when requested.  Some tubes are sourced from the likes of ENVE, others are wrapped in house, depending on the needs of the rider.

The boys at Predator has a good relationship with the folks at FSA, and because of that, they were able to obtain a single speed, disc, deep carbon tubular wheelset.  The FSA rim was custom laced to DT Swiss disc hubs.

Shamrock Cycles

Shamrock Cycles Lugged MTB

Shamrock Cycles was proudly displaying this lugged, full suspention MTB, and rightfully so.  The lugs are all hand carved  and the amazing paintwork was laid on by Corby Concepts.  The main frame is a bi-laminate construction, the hand cut lugs are made from 4130 chromoly, and the rear triangle is from Ventana.

This bike checks off all the right boxes, as it is stainless stell, it has disc brakes, internal cable routing, and top end components from ENVE, SRAM and Thompson.  It’s race ready.

The trick internal fork disc brake cable routing is a nice touch.

The Predator SS Disc CX bike appears to use Avid BB7 brakes with a two piece rotor. Can you run a two piece rotor with BB7s? I thought that the aluminum carrier makes the rotor so stiff that it can’t contact the second brake pad. As I recall, BB7’s only move one pad and require the rotor to flex to contact the fixed pad.

Thanks,

All Hail Aram and Tim!
Lucky to be in the business w/ them and these two individuals are what make NAHBS what it is–a home coming of grit, imagination and craftmenship.
Aram really is a rocket scientist (not just in saying), he has a long standing record in height that he set in his high school days. Cool person and a great laugh.
Tim speaks his mind and employs a good crew. “I hear ya pal!”
Now all you keyboard jockeys go on over to their websites, call ’em up and lay out some coin for your dream build!

I have been running a custom Indyfab with BB7s and Avid 2 piece rotors for sometime with ZERO problems.

I run XTR centerlock rotors with BB7 calipers. The only trick that was needed was a bit of bringing down the arms for installation, they rubbed the carrier arms of the rotor. Absolutely great braking performance!
