Boo had a number of impressive show worthy bikes this year at NAHBS, but if there was one bike that stopped people in their tracks it was probably this AluBoo fat bike. If fat biking in the snow wasn’t enough winter sporting for you, this bike is the ultimate winter sportsmobile. Able to carry all the gear you need to get out to your favorite ice climbing location, the bike also has to ability to carry some massive skis if the snow gets too deep for fat bike tires.

Even if you don’t need a bike for a winter triathlon, Boo had some other bikes that may interest you…

The amount of gear on the AluBoo was pretty impressive. I wouldn’t want to have to repack it all, but it looks like it had a full ice climbing set up in addition to the ski boots and skis.

First introduced last year at Interbike, the AluBooyah fat bike is now being offered in 3 sizes and in 3 different builds. Called the 14k, 18k, and 24k, the build kits will include SRAM X7, X9, and XX1 respectively.

  • Alubooyah 24K – SRAM XX1 drivetrain, 2014 XO Trail hydraulic disc brakes, Carver O’Beast carbon fiber fork, Rolling Darryl rims with Bud/Lou tires – $4595
  • Alubooyah 18K – SRAM X9 drivetrain, Avid BB7 MTB S brakes, Truvativ Stylo T30 cockpit (bars, stems, post) Borealis FR80 rims (80mm–available in black, silver, and red) with 3.8″ Surly Nate or 45North Husker Dü 120tpi (if available) tires – $3495
  • Alubooyah 14K – SRAM X7 drivetrain, Avid BB7 MTB brakes, Truvativ T20 cockpit, Borealis FR80 rims (80mm–available in black, silver, and red)  with 3.8″ Larry tires (120tpi) – $2995

Both Alubooyahs above are an example of their painter’s work, with solid metallic pain jobs offered for an extra $295. If you want something wild like the tiger motif above it can be done, but will cost you a lot more.

The Boo portion of the brand continues with full custom carbon/bamboo creations hand made by James Wolf. This allows for cool builds like this belt drive townie with an integrated bamboo rack.

VP’s marketing man Erik Saunders has his own Boo hardtail which he had built with a slacker head tube for what he calls a “rad super capable bike.”

this aluboo is a joke. looks cheap, yah i made a legit comment a while back. i understand the price point and “gateway” idea, but this stuff…well is, sad in comparison to the original. if boo is trying to devalue the original … mission accomplished.

Looks like they know just enough about ice climbing to turn heads, but not enough to look like anything but posers to the climbing world. What is this, Vertical Limit?

Still waiting for the bamboo fork, cause bamboo is such a great bicycle building material

If you have ridden one and can comment first hand on there relative merits fair enough. But your comments would indicate that your probably haven’t. The bikes are amazing especially at the price point. Ride incredibly well and in the flesh certainly do not come across as cheap. I totally admit they are not going to be everyones cup of tea, and as a bike, they do most things well without excelling in anyone specialty. But for a frame that offers the seasonal flexibility with changing a few parts I doubt anything comes close. As for devaluing the brand i see it as the opposite. It is a great starter to get someone to try the material and if they like it they might just step up to a Boo. Again only an opinion

K11, allinall, and eadm: ride one. It would take steel wool to wipe the smile off your face. What these guys do is unique and inventive. Personally I think the cycling world needs more guys like this. Sure steel, aluminum, and carbon have been tested and proven. But how long has that taken? This industry is about people with the gonads to submit fresh ideas and I pity the ones who aren’t creative or brave enough to come up with their own (most just spend their time talking smack on forums). So speculate all you want. Boos and Aluboos ride amazingly. Drop into the shop in Fort Collins and the guys will buy you a beer, show you the best riding, then offer you a couch to crash on. These guys have it dialed and are here to stay.
