NAHBS 2010 – Sure, you’re not likely to buy this, and you’re probably more interested in Stijl Cycles’ sweet 29er singlespeed frame with trick disc brake mounts, but I’m leading with this for the same reason they had it at the prime corner in their booth…makes you look.

The tricycle is a custom, one-off design that uses a 30-something inch front wheel, Brooks saddle, Campy Record headset and Shimano SLX rear hubs.  More pics of this and their sweet mountain bikes after the break…

Stijl is the custom bicycle brand of Tektonics Design Group, a specialty design and fabrication firm in Richmond, VA.  All of their frames are custom painted locally after being built to each customer’s size and riding style.

Stijl’s singlespeed 29er frame had perhaps one of the more novel solutions to mounting disc brakes on sliding dropouts.  Since the caliper has to move with the wheel, most builders use pre-made sliding dropouts that house the brake mounts, too.  Stijl incorporated sliding mounts right onto the frame, and the design is accented by painting the insides of the dropout and mount.

Another nice touch is the “locknut” dual adjusters on the set screws.

Stijl makes both geared and singlespeed bikes in 29er and 26″ sizes, and everything’s custom made on order.  The gray/red paint scheme here is one of two stock color options (white is the other), but you can request custom paint jobs, too.
