Multi-sport helmet maker Nutcase has launched their new updated Gen3 line of ABS hard-shelled cycling helmets. A few minor improvements should add up to a better value urban helmet, with prices actually coming down vs. many of the previous Gen2 designs that we showed before here. Follow past the break for a bit more detail and a few more designs.
The helmets combine a ABS hard shell over EPS foam that does the impact absorption. The Gen3 includes a new dial-to-adjust fit system, a new snap on visor for a little bit of sun/rain protection, and a one-handed operation magnetic buckle. Subtle reflective accents in the retention straps and Nutcase logos add a bit of nighttime visibility.
Also new is a revised second layer EPS crumple zone to increase rider safety (that also helps lower overall weight), rethought wider sizing ranges, improved ventilation, and some new designs. Their colorful designs are certainly one of the most interesting aspects of the CPSC certified helmets. Pricing is $70, and they can be bought through a pretty big bike dealer network or direct from their online store.
We’ll look to get one in for a test to see how much it weighs, how well the removable visor helps, and see how it stands up to long term abuse use.
