The city of Rock Hill, SC, just outside of Charlotte, is moving forward with a $4 million project that would include the construction of a velodrome, a BMX supercross track, and a permanent cyclocross course as part of an Olympic caliber sports park.
The park, which has a working name of Riverwalk Park, will cover a 1,000 acre tract of land which was formerly used as an industrial manufacturing plant. The city of Rock Hill will put nearly $3 million of the $4 million needed into the park using tax dollars and city revenues.
Officials don’t yet have a projected completion date for the project, but major construction is expected to begin late next year. Read the full story from the local news station here.
