It’s a different approach than the Bell 360Fly helmet/cam combo launched earlier today, but the effect is similar: 360 degrees of video capture in glorious 4K ultra hi def.
The new Nikon KeyMission 360 puts a spherical lens front and rear, capturing a very immersive set of video and still images that should open up more exciting uses for action sports cameras. Remember that killer video you shot with the camera angled just a bit too low? And remember how you kept tilting your head up as you watched the replay, trying desperately to see further down the trail? You can kiss those types of goofs goodbye with the Nikon offering, and that may be reason enough to see what the camera experts are bringing to the bike.
Other features include a rugged, shock- and water-proof housing with electronic vibration reduction applied during playback to smooth your video. A large, easy to hit on/off button appears to be at the top of the unit, which should make operation very simple. A few settings and ports appear on the sides, along with a mic on one side (no stereo?). We’re looking forward to getting all the tech specs soon.

Nikon will exhibit reference models of the KeyMission 360 at the Nikon booth at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) from Wednesday, January 6 to Saturday, January 9, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The KeyMission 360, the first of Nikon’s lineup of action cameras, along with a variety of dedicated accessories, will officially be released in Spring 2016.
