The new NOX Epium eMTB seeks to reshape preconceived notions about ebikes with a lightweight carbon frame, adaptable all-mountain to enduro suspension, and light & compact Fazua powertrain with powerful but smooth pedal-assist. Plus, the Epium frame and ebike system are made entirely in Europe.
NOX Epium lightweight carbon eMTB
The new carbon Epium is the lightest eMTB yet from Nox Cycles. Pairing a lightweight, adaptable 2700g carbon frame to the lightest ebike powertrain on the market, Nox says the Epium reimagines what it can be like to ride an e-mountain bike – in a more natural feeling when pedaling uphill or bombing down the trail – plus the added range to power you for longer rides.
“Less weight, less convention, less restriction; more agility, more efficiency.”
Nox describes the new Epium as a progressive eMTB for long-distance mountain tours and extending bikepark days beyond the uplift.
Tech details
The heart of the new Nox Epium is a full carbon monocoque frame with a claimed weight of 2.7kg and clearance for up to 2.8″ tires. It’s Nox’s lightest ever frame, and is said to finely balance stiffness with just a bit of flex for the “ultimate natural riding feel”.
The eMTB gets a new high-pivot Horst-link 4-bar suspension design, with its linkage-driven shock tucked into the front triangle inline with the toptube & seatstays.
With flip chips at both ends of the shock and another at the rear dropout, the Epium’s ‘Flex Linkage’ suspension system can adapt the ebike’s geometry to suit varied terrain or mixed wheel sizes. Plus, it allows Nox to shift the bike from 180mm travel Enduro 7.1 builds to 150mm All-Mountain 5.9 builds with a simple rear shock swap.
Powertrain for the ebike is the latest light, small & powerful 250W Fazua Ride 60 system with 60Nm of torque at the bottom bracket and a compact 430Wh battery tucked into the downtube. Controls are simple with auto on & off, plus the unobtrusive Fazua LED display on the toptube, and smart wireless device connectivity.
Made-in Europe
While a majority of modern bike and ebike systems are made in Taiwan & China, this new NOX is entirely European.
Developed in Austria, the carbon frame is manufactured in Portugal, painted in Germany, and then finally assembled back in Austria. Even the Fazua ebike drive system is made in Germany
Nox Epium – All-mountain or Enduro options
The new Nox Epium comes in two build configurations All-mountain or Enduro. The Epium All-Mountain 5.9 builds get 150mm of rear wheel travel paired to 160mm forks, and 29″ wheels. The Epium Enduro 7.1 builds on the other hand go longer with 180mm of travel front & rear, but switch to a mullet wheel setup – 29″ front & 27.5″ rear.
The frames come in three stock sizes (S-L) with long, low & slack geometry and in three different extra-planetary-themed colors – Moon gray, Mars orange, Jupiter pink & purple. Three build kits are available for each ebike travel option.
Complete eMTB builds start 8600€ for Core with Shimano Deore 1×10/Marzocchi/Fox, 9200€ for Pro with SLX 1×12/Fox Performance, and 10,900€ for Ultra with XTR/Fox Factory – all in the All-mountain guise or an extra one hundred euros for enduro builds.
All builds are available for pre-order now, with deliveries slated for “early 2023”.
