Fit5’s new Indoor Cycle Pedal makes swapping pedals on the trainer a thing of the past, providing Delta, Keo, SPD SL, SPD, and toe clip compatibility in a single setup. Initially developed for indoor fitness studios, the reasonably priced Fit5 pedals would be a great solution for a couple who share the same dedicated trainer bike at home.
Fit5 universal Indoor Cycle Pedal works with road & MTB cleats
There have been a couple of pedal options before pairing road cleat attachment on one side and mountain cleat interface on the other. But with the rise of spinning classes, and now more premium dedicated home training bikes than ever, the Fit5 may just eliminate the need to swap pedals for indoor workouts. These are big, bulky pedals, specifically ONLY rated for indoor riding because of clearance issues. But for families that share a Kickr Bike, Peloton, Wattbike, or even the same bike on a rear wheel trainer, and use more than one pedal:cleat interface, the Fit5s just might make life easier.
What pedal interfaces are supported?
Bicycle Retailer tells us that Fit5’s development team is composed of a group of 5 long established industry insiders, including the founders of crankbrothers – a group Fit5 calls “iconic pedal designers”. Together they figured out the top-5 pedal interfaces used on indoor trainers, then engineered a single pedal that would work with all.
Once dominating road cycling, Look’s Delta cleat are used primarily indoors now on fitness bikes, like Pelotons that come with them – so they’re in (also working with Look ARC). Now the more modern, smaller & thinner Look Keo interface is more common on the road, also compatible. And of course Shimano SPD-SL road pedals are hugely popular, so they work too.
On the other side, as much as there are tons of competing systems, Shimano’s 25 year classic SPD mountain bike pedals rule the numbers on any bike ridden off-road, so they are supported as well. Plus, with Fit5’s own toe clip & strap setup that snaps into the Shimano SPD-SL setting you can ride with regular flat-soled shoes, too.
Tool-free Tech details
The trick to working tool-free with three different sets of road cleats is the three-position selector switch on the side of the pedals. Just select for the appropriate cleats, then clip in like normal, with a large blue cage release lever on each pedal for removing the toe clips. The rear red lever also lets you adjust the tension on your road clears. On the SPD side, tension is adjusted with a hex key, just like on most mountain bike pedals.
The Fit5 indoor pedals are built to survive the rough life of a fitness studio spin bike, so the die cast aluminum pedal bodies spin on large heat-treated cro-mo pedal spindles, tapering from 15mm at the inner bearing to 12mm at the outer bearing. Fit5 calls them the “smoothest, most robust spindle and bearing system available”, rotating on two dual-sealed cartridge ABEC 5 cartridge bearings per pedal. All other elements of the pedals are constructed from engineered glass fiber-reinforced plastic.

Fit5’s indoor-only Indoor Cycle Pedals are available through independent bike shops, online from Amazon, or direct from the Fit5 website.
Standard pricing for a pair of pedals for use with clipless cycling shoes is $129, although they are on sale for twenty bucks cheaper than that now direct from Fit5. Or if you want to ride in sneakers, a pair of pedals sells for $149 with the Platform Adapters, which are also available separately.
