The X1 is the fastest rolling and least aggressive, and the X6 is the most aggressive and most traction - it's really that easy.

Onza Tires is a European-based brand known for, well, tires. But, specifically, they are best known for their mountain bike tires. The brand dates back to the 1990s, with iconic tires like the Porcupine putting them on the map.

But Onza is breaking away, just a bit, from their mountain biking roots to introduce a complete gravel tire lineup. The Allegra X will be a family of six tires with a naming structure that is so easy to follow, even I can figure out what each is for.

Wait, Onza Already Does Gravel…

Okay, yes, you are correct. This isn’t Onza’s first venture away from manufacturing mountain bike tires. We covered the introduction of the Grava gravel tire, noting its mountain bike roots.

It has been a little over a year since Onza released the Grava. In that time, it seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. It isn’t on their website anymore, and the only place we can seem to find it is online retailers like Bike Tires Direct.

We reached out to Onza regarding the confusion around the Grava tire. We were informed that the brand had to discontinue the tire due to copyright issues with another brand.

But, regardless of past tires, Onza has a new offering that is outside of the MTB world. They are releasing six new tires in their gravel family, the Allegra X. And, there isn’t any guesswork as to which tire you need, as the lineup features a naming structure that is incredibly easy, and also indicates how “aggressive” the tire is.

And, we like that.

The Allegra X Gravel Tire Family

Onza explained their new Allegra X lineup with this statement: “The lineup is simple by design — from X1 to X6, each step adds more bite. The higher the number, the more aggressive the tread.”

Their branding continues: X1 = Fastest. X6 = Fiercest.

Each tire receives Onza’s Gravel Endurance Casing (GEC). This gravel-specific construction features a 120 TPI casing layer, along with an additional nylon layer for enhanced sidewall protection. The top also sees an extra layer of puncture protection below the 60a rubber.

Less Aggressive

Allegra X1

The Allegra X1 has a semi-slick center and a progressive shoulder. It is meant for speed on the road but can venture onto hardpack and light gravel.

  • Fast and efficient tire from pavement to mixed surface
  • 700x35C, 700x40C, 700x45C, 700x50C
  • Weight: 490g (35mm), 525g (40mm), 600g (45mm), 640g (50mm)
  • Tubeless Ready
  • GEC construction
  • ALLEGRA gravel tire compound
  • Black or Tan sidewall

Allegra X2

For a mixed-terrain focused tire that still makes road miles easy, Onza created the Allegra X2. Its hexagonal tread pattern rolls fast while offering descent grip when asphalt turns to dirt.

  • Fast and efficient tire from mixed surface to hardpack dirt
  • 700x40C, 700x50C
  • Weight: 480g (40mm), 610g (50mm)
  • Tubeless Ready
  • GEC construction
  • ALLEGRA gravel tire compound
  • Black or Tan sidewall

Allegra X3

Here is where Onza shifts the Allegra X focus more to dirt. The X3 features a more prominent yet still tightly packed center tread for faster rolling and aggressive shoulder knobs for cornering.

  • Fast and efficient tire from hardpack dirt to loose gravel
  • 700x40C, 700x50C
  • Weight: 520g (40mm), 610g (50mm)
  • Tubeless Ready
  • GEC construction
  • ALLEGRA gravel tire compound
  • Black or Tan sidewall

More Aggressive

Allegra X4

The X4 is all about the dirt. More aggressive center and shoulder knobs track through loose conditions and shed debris well. However, the center tread is still relatively close, providing lower rolling resistance. These are race-ready.

  • Tread designed for rolling speed and grip in loose conditions
  • 700x40C, 700x45C
  • Weight: 515g (40mm)
  • Tubeless Ready
  • GEC construction
  • ALLEGRA gravel tire compound
  • Black or Tan sidewall

Allegra X5

Now we’re transitioning from dry and loose conditions to wet and loose. While remaining sure-footed in all conditions, wider spaced tread allows the X5 to shed muddy wet-condition trail debris more easily.

  • Fast and efficient tire for hard-packed dirt to singletrack
  • 700x40C, 700x45C, 700x50C
  • Weight: 520 (40mm), 610g (50mm)
  • Tubeless Ready
  • GEC construction
  • ALLEGRA gravel tire compound
  • Black or Tan sidewall

Allegra X6

For the roughest trails and the rockiest roads, the Allegra X6 blurs the line between gravel and MTB. Deep knobs provide traction in loose soils, but a chamfered center still allows for the X6 to be an efficient roller.

  • Heavy-duty tire for rugged terrain and deep soils
  • 700x40C, 700x50C
  • Weight: 540g (40mm), 675g (50mm)
  • Tubeless Ready
  • GEC construction
  • ALLEGRA gravel tire compound
  • Black or Tan sidewall

Staying with the theme of simplicity, each tire in the Allegra X tire family retails for €59.90 (~$69.48). Tires will be available at Onza’s website.
