The OPEN U.P. pushed the boundaries of what defined a gravel bike when it came out, notably with its signature dropped chainstay design allowing for some of the biggest tire-clearance available at the time. The dropped drive-side chainstay allows the necessary space for a wider tire clearing up to 2.1” tires on the U.P. as claimed by OPEN with a unique geometry that allows riders to stay with the narrower q-factor designs common in road cranks, rather than switch to a wider q-factor mountain crank. Their latest gravel frameset, the WI.DE (short for Winding Detours) is capable of clearing even bigger tires, all while continuing to accommodate road cranks to keep pedaling efficiency high while increasing the opportunity for traction, stability, and comfort with higher volume tires on the road, or off.
To showcase the new WI.DE. frameset, OPEN has collaborated to offer several limited edition packages to make your WI.DE. stand out even more!
OPEN x Atomik Carbon x Berd
OPEN and carbon components specialists Atömik Carbon have been working on a partnership for some time now, with complete OPEN Cycle models available directly through Atomik. To celebrate the collaboration, Atomik created this very special, and very limited edition. Restricted to just ten pieces, the bikes will include the option to select nearly every part, though two base build options will be offered.
One, at $7,500 will include a SRAM Force 1x eTap group, Atomik Carbon cockpit and seat post, and Atomik Carbon wheels with Berd ultra light spokes. A higher end build will also be offered with a SRAM RED/Eagle 1x mullet build with the same carbon cockpit and wheels for $9,000. Keep in mind that these prices are a rough guideline as differences in build may effect the final price. Even if you don’t land one of the 10 limited edition bikes, you can still order your OPEN U.P., U.P.P.E.R. or WI.DE. directly from Atomik with a number of different build options.
OPEN x Black Magic Paint
Black Magic Paint has laid an exclusive finish designed and painted in house in their Portland, Oregon facility on the new WI.DE frameset, and completed it with premier components spec from SRAM and ENVE to offer what they are calling the “ultimate gravel adventure bike!” The color-shift blue to purple pearl paint over carbon is highlighted by the PVD Titanium Nitride coating of the SRAM Eagle XX1 cassette and chain, and the chrome foil hits match perfectly with the finish of the SRAM Red eTap AXS components. Topped off with custom matching wheel decals, Black Magic Paint call the result a package that is comprised of the “best [components] available for gravel riding” with “seamless aesthetics.” They even offer the option to paint match the ENVE bar, seatpost, and stem for a head-to-toe look, and available component upgrades allow the buyer to customize every detail to be exactly what they want.
The complete Black Magic Paint x OPEN WI.DE. bike starts at $9,999.99 USD, with optional paint matched components adding $120 for an individual component to $320 for all three (bar, stem, seatpost). To purchase, make your way to the Black Magic Paint website to order with a ship date of mid-late March 2021. Once ordered, Black Magic Paint will be in touch to discuss any additional component choice upgrades desired and desired component spec and size. These bikes are a limited run, and once Black Magic sells out they will not be producing more! To get you order in head to Black Magic’s website.
OPEN x ENVE
Open has collaborated with ENVE Composites before, featuring paint matched ENVE components on OPEN frames with graphics inspired by nature. Their first 2018 collaboration utilizing the earth tones of Moab and the area around ENVE’s headquarters for the paint scheme, and in 2019 they brought the “winter edition,” with a color palette drawn from snow covered mountains. This year, OPEN and ENVE are bringing a WI.DE frameset with ENVE’s new Adventure Fork which features bosses rated to carry weight, fender mounts, adjustable geometry via flip-able axle chips, and internal dynamo hub routing, as well as the new AG28 650b gravel wheelset, G-series handlebar, and ENVE seatpost and stem – this time with graphics featuring lines and colors inspired by the deep woods.
Only 100 of the OPEN x ENVE framesets were made available to OPEN dealers, so stop by your local OPEN stocking bike shop if you want to get in on the latest collaboration between OPEN and ENVE! Since drivetrain and finishing details are left up to the customer, there is no set pricing and it will depend on the final build.
