Ornot had a tag line that said “you could be a rolling billboard, Ornot”. It was a good tag line. Well, it seems that the brand’s decade-long ethos of minimal cycling apparel branding might be over, at least temporarily. With Ornot’s new Billboard Collection, they not only turned the branding up to 11, but the collection pays a solid homage to metal band shirts.
Ornot has gained a reputation as a brand that is known for clean, minimal, and understated branding on everything they produce. But with this latest collection, we can look forward to some Loudness.
The Billboard Jersey and Billboard Cotton Tee are riddled with metal band-style distorted logos, metal fonts, and “deliberate chaos”. Ornot says that these pieces are “both a nod to vintage band tees and a tongue-in-cheek critique of logo-saturated cycling kits”.
But, are you ready for the plot twist? Ornot is offering a $15 “marketing credit” (jersey only) to anyone willing to wear the jersey. That’s a bold move for a brand that has made it part of their credo to avoid such blatant walking advertisements.
