Osprey is expanding their pack line for 2019 with new carry options – no matter where you like to stash your gear. First previewed at Sea Otter last spring, their new Seral & Savu lumbar packs are now available and headed to your local bike shop. Billed as “perfect packs for the mountain biking minimalist”, both bags rest on the hips, and are smaller overall than your average hydration backpack.

What is the difference between the two packs? The Seral has a 1.5L fluid reservoir (below, left) while the Savu holds two standard water bottles (below, right).
The two packs share a lot of DNA:
- Bike-specific angled hip belt
- Airmesh wrap hip belt, with zippered fabric pockets providing stability & breathability
- ErgoPull waist strap closure system delivers proper, snug & stable fit
- Airscape Lumbar Back panel with extra thick ridged foam, center air channel for excellent ventilation & stability
- Easily accessible zippered main compartment
- Internal tool organization
- Dual zippered hip belt pockets
- Front panel bungee for extra clothing
- 3 colors: Slate Blue, Molten Red & Obsidian Black
Regardless of which you choose, you’ll find storage for plenty of your necessities, plus a mount for a small clip-on tail light.
The $85 Seral has a 7 liter overall volume, weighs 0.82 pounds (372g), and has overall dimensions of 7.9″H x 13.0″W x 5.9″D. It also has a magnetic bite valve attachment for the 1.5L reservoir.
The smaller $55 Savu has a 4 liter overall volume, weighs 0.81 pounds (367g), and has overall dimensions of 6.7″H x 11.8″W x 4.3″D. While the Seral fits an internal hydration reservoir, the Savu relies on pockets to haul two standard bike bottles.
