PakBrite is a new, Portland, Oregon-based brand that’s hoping to make waves with what it’s calling a “breakthrough product line” that “sets a new standard with a modular ecosystem that combines storage, safety, and performance in one system.” This system includes a sturdy mount, storage capsule, rear light, and rear fender in a unique, integrated package with an adaptable, modular design to suit your changing needs.

“Cyclists shouldn’t have to sacrifice performance for safety, or safety for convenience,” said Tony Santorufo, Founder of PakBrite. “The Carbon Capsule Pro delivers all three, and it is the Tri-Fin Mount that makes this possible. We designed it to be the backbone of a modular ecosystem so every rider can build their setup around one secure, universal mount. For the first time ever, cyclists can run storage, taillights, and fenders, all together, on one mount.”

The PakBrite system builds off the foundation of the Tri-Fin Mount, providing a stable and secure connection to the bike and compatibility with most seatpost diameters and shapes. With the Tri-Fin Mount in place, riders can then quickly and easily attach and detach any of the other components — or a combination of them — to suit their storage, visibility, or weather protection needs. Let’s check out the various components of PakBrite’s unique modular system.

PakBrite Tri-Fin Mount: $39

The Tri-Fin Mount is the foundation of the PakBrite system. It fits most seatpost shapes and sizes, including Aero posts.

The backbone of the PakBrite system is the Tri-Fin Mount, which the brand calls “a precision-engineered attachment system developed through years of lab and road testing.” Designed to be sturdy, stable, and rattle-free, the Tri-Fin Mount has a universal attachment that works with all of the other components in the brand’s ecosystem to attach or remove gear in seconds with its quick-release design. The Tri-Fin Mount works with all of the other products in PakBrite’s line, including the Carbon Capsule Pro, the PakLite Mini, and the Fender GT/XL.

The Tri-Fin Mount is made of nylon glass and forged/machined aluminum. According to PakBrite, it is designed for a universal fit and is compatible with cylindrical (round), D-shaped, and Aero seatposts. The mount includes numerous rubber inserts and bolts of varying lengths to fit seatposts of varying shapes and sizes. The head of the mount has a 14-degree range of tilt adjustment, so riders can fine-tune the angle of the attached accessories to suit their bike’s geometry.

The Carbon Capsule Pro holds your repair kit and tools, and has a bright rear light for visibility.

The Carbon Capsule Pro is designed to combine your on-bike tool storage with a high-visibility rear light in a sturdy, stable, and aerodynamic package. Made from “aerospace-grade carbon fiber and advanced composite materials,” the Carbon Capsule Pro attaches directly to the Tri-Fin mount or to the Fender GT/XL quickly and securely. It has a cylindrical shape with 400 ml of storage, big enough to “carry a full tire repair kit, tools, and more.”

The lid of the Carbon Capsule Pro is also the rear light, boasting up to 300 lumens of eye-catching light to ensure you’re visible day or night. The LEDs are “optically enhanced for maximum visibility and equipped with smart brake-sensing technology that alerts drivers instantly.” The light also has a convenient auto on/off feature that senses when your ride ends and powers down automatically to preserve battery, while the battery indicator lets you know how much charge you have left. The electronics are IP67-rated for waterproofness and ready to take on all weather conditions.

The Fender attaches directly to the Tri-Fin Mount. Riders can then attach the Carbon Capsule Pro or the PakLite Mini to the fender if they choose.

The PakBrite Fender GT/XL attaches and detaches in seconds using the Tri-Fin Mount. It is designed to block the rider from tire spray, mud, and road grime, and can be used on its own or in combination with the Carbon Capsule Pro or the PakLite Mini. The Fender comes in two sizes: the smaller GT is intended for use on road and gravel bikes, and the XL is aimed at mountain and gravel riders. Regardless of size, the Fenders are made from an “ultra-strong” nylon-glass and ABS plastic with a UV-resistant coating.

If you don’t need/want the storage of the Carbon Capsule Pro, the PakLite Mini is a bright rear light that attaches to the Fender, directly to the Tri-Fin Mount, or uses its own attachment system.

For those who pack light or carry their tools/gear in other places, the PakLite Mini is a 220-lumen rear light that can be used on its own or be attached to the Tri-Fin Mount or Fender GT/XL. It has “optically enhanced LEDs” and has solid and flashing modes along with advanced features like brake-sensing, auto-on/off, a battery life indicator, and is IP67-rated for weather resistance. My tool bottle is 700g with just a Wera ratchet, small alloy pliers, chain breaker, small bottle of sealant and few bits and bobs, not even including a spare tube. This looks like it would work OK on the road, but bouncing it around on actual gravel in the very position that creates the highest possible torque would be placing a lot of trust in that plastic mount.

You can trust this mount! The entire system was designed to withstand the harshest bumps, drops and rough terrain you could throw at it. The Tri-Fin™ mount was made to withstand major impact in this horizontal configuration. It was thoroughly tested in the lab, in simulated software and in the real world. Thousands of miles of rigorous testing on the roughest roads to ensure this lightweight mount and system was an absolute beast.
