Pirelli fills out their gravel bike tire range with a new Cinturato Gravel S tread that pulls from knobby MTB tire designs to offer more grip in extra soft off-road riding conditions. Added to this summer’s newest Gravel RC tread with fast-rolling XC-inspired knobs, the new Gravel S spreads out even wider to dig in for more MTB trail-inspired grip…
Pirelli Cinturato Gravel S soft gravel tire
The newly aggressive Pirelli Cinturato Gravel S rounds out a 4-tread gravel tire lineup from tackling smooth hardpack to loose trails. With its S for Soft terrain, the new Cinturato Gravel S tire is the most aggressive tread pattern in the Pirelli gravel bike family.
While it doesn’t bear much direct resemblance in actual design to the Scorpion mountain bike tires that inspired Cinturato Gravel’s off-road development – the Soft gravel tire shares the same open tread, mud-shedding concept for grip in loose conditions. Yet it looks a bit more like a cyclocross tread than a mountain bike tire.
Pirelli picked and chose familiar directional chevrons and cornering-optimized blocks from their original Medium & Hard and more recent RaCing terrain gravel tires, and simply made them taller with wider spacing between the knobs.
The result is a gravel tire that claims to still be fairly fast-rolling, yet it can dig deep into soft surfaces and shed mud when the dirt & gravel roads get wet and sloppy!
Tech details
The new Gravel S is another tubeless-ready gravel bike tire, available now in two sizes – 700c x 40mm (530g) & 45mm (550g), with 50mm (600g) coming soon.
Like the Gravel RC, the new Gravel S features a reinforced 60tpi nylon casing with a bead-to-bead TechWall Gravel anti-puncture belt to handle riding the roughest gravel roads and high-speed trails. On top of that, it gets SpeedGrip rubber compound for control in any weather – dry & loose to wet & slippery.
Cinturato Gravel S – Pricing, options & availability
The new Pirelli Cinturato Gravel S is available now for $83 / 67€ in 40mm & $85 / 68€ in 45mm sizes. Even wider 50mm tires will also be available “in the coming months”. The new S comes in both ‘classic’ brownwall and slightly heavier all-black (+10g in black) versions, in all sizes.
Pirelli says the new Cinturato Gravel S is perfect for increasingly wet autumn riding, completing their gravel tire offerings from hard& dry to soft & wet terrain.
