I’m a fan of a brand that offers good value for your money, whether in the bike world or not. And in the bike world, PNW Components is one of those brands. The PNW crew is great, and the products are of high quality and offered at reasonable prices. And today, they’re launching the second-generation Loam Dropper post. With a Lifetime Warranty and retail price of $229 for black and $234 for silver, they continue that tradition.

The Loam Dropper is PNW’s top-tier dropper post. They sent me Gen 2 last week, but I haven’t had a chance to review it yet. I’ll be using it for a custom Scarab Cycles Darién hardtail that I’m building up to review. So, stay tuned for both the dropper and Scarab Cycles review in the next couple of weeks.

I am a fan of PNW’s offerings. I’ve reviewed their Range Dropper and Lever combo last Summer. Great value! I also reviewed their Loam carbon bar in the Fall, which by the way, is my all-time favorite MTB bar. And, after I’m done with the Darién build, that bar will be on all three of my bikes. Booyah!

I am currently running the first-generation version of the Loam Dropper on my Salsa Blackthorn. And, after a few hundred miles, it’s been a great dropper. I’m excited to see what the difference will be between the first and second generation.

The new Loam Dropper will now be available in diameters 30.9mm, 31.6mm (reviewing), and 34.9mm. In addition, it will come in the following travel choices: 125mm, 150mm, 175mm (reviewing), 200mm, and 225mm. The 175mm and 225mm are new additions. The colors for the post are either black or silver. But you have a choice of 8 different mid-cap band colors to choose from. Get your matchy, matchy on.

The new lower stack height of the Gen 2 Loam Dropper is a welcome change, providing a better fit for your frame. It also features a sealed dual-chamber PNW Cartridge, offering smooth and fast action, along with a simple design that is easy to service.

The decreased stack height is brought to you by an updated saddle clamp area and a slimmed-down mid-cap, which can add an extra 1″ of drop. The two new travel options, and an updated, tool-less travel adjust system, mean that it will be easier to dial your new post to just the right fit.

On top of the sleeker, simple-to-service design, dual-chamber cartridge, the Gen 2 Loam Dropper also gets a revamped travel adjust bushing and beefier brass keys. All of this will create a stronger, longer-lasting system. Combine all of this with the reasonable price and Lifetime Warranty, and you can’t go wrong choosing it for your next dropper.

A Quick Note on Silver

From PNW: “The hype squad said silver is all the rage, but it’s not easy being shiny. After rigorous product testing, we honed in on an abrasion-resistant, hard anodization process that ensures the same durability DNA as our original black droppers. Now, the Loam comes in two finish options, classic black or shiny silver alloy.
