PNW Components recently announced a voluntary recall of its Loam Pedals Gen 2. The 2nd generation of the alloy Loam flat pedals was launched earlier this year, and since then, the brand has received reports of four cracked axles. PNW Components is asking that all owners of Loam Pedals Gen 2 stop riding them immediately, as there is a risk of serious injury.

According to PNW’s recall statement, the four axle failures represent just 0.16% of the pedals sold globally. Apparently, the affected axles are from a small batch that had a defect in the heat treatment process. “Due to the potential of spindle batches being mixed, we are not comfortable having any of them ridden right now and have decided to recall all of them in the field,” said PNW. The brand was also quick to point out that this recall does not affect the Loam Pedal Gen 1 or the Range Composite pedals.
PNW Components values its customers and understands the inconvenience of this recall on affected Loam Pedal owners. “As we continue progress toward resolving this issue, we can’t have riders left in limbo while we produce the solution.” said PNW Components, “We take this very seriously, and to show our commitment, we are offering owners the option to receive a brand-new pair of our Range Composite Pedals free of charge as an interim solution until we have a revised axle system to send out. These are yours to keep after the replacement axles are sent out.”

If you own a set of PNW Components’ Loam Pedals Gen 2, stop riding with them and head to the brand’s recall claims page to file a claim. This will get the process started to receive your free pair of Range pedals so you can stay on the trail while the brand works on a fix.
