Moving right along with their sport sunglass progression, POC is using the 2015 Giro d’Italia to launch their newest pair of shades. Called the DO Half Blade, the glasses are a logical evolution of their original DO Blades. Essentially a DO Blade with the lower half of the frame removed (hence the name), the Half Blade retains all of the tech of the originals but with an increased field of vision…

POC DO half blade green octal helmet

As the official helmet and eyewear supplier of Cannondale-Garmin Pro Cycling, the DO Half Blades are clad in a matching hue of Cannondale Green but should be available in multiple colors come June, 2015. Using replaceable lenses that have been developed with Zeiss Optics, the anti-fog and water repellent shields are said to pop in and out of the frame quickly and easily. Housed in an injection molded grilamid frame, the light weight glasses include an adjustable nose piece and a fit designed to integrate well with POC helmets like the Octal. Pricing TBA.

Well, they look a lot better matched with the helmet. Otherwise I’m not a fan – but it is subjective.

Is there a technical reason that these big single-lens glasses are never made in a polarized version?

@Micah: Oakley made every model in polarized option, even the new jawbreaker, don’t care about this poc stuff…

@Micah, you can blame the rise of smart phones for that one, a lot of LCD screens don’t play nice with polarised lenses and demand for them has tailed off a bit in recent years. Unpolarised lenses are also slightly cheaper and easier to make.
.
As for these POCs, I like them and the normal DO Blade, they’re incredibly comfortable to wear (even more so than Radars), but there’s no escaping that they’re very, very Swedish.

@riccardo – Thanks! Too bad they are so expensive.
