One of the early pioneer of wearable fitness tech, Polar has paired up with the GoPro Developer Program to add action cam integration functionality in the V800 GPS watch later this year. While the V800 already tracks a wide range of cycling, running and swimming training, plus 24/7 activity and sleep, the new connection will link the GPS device with the growing number of GoPros filming everything from training to races…

The pairing will let V800 users both operate their GoPro cameras and overlay their performance and heart rate data into GoPro captured video. It also establishes a development partnership that will likely see expanded integration in the future.

For now cyclists and runners will be able to use the V800 to operate basic commands on their GoPro camera, presumably to start and stop recording and see current camera status. The current details say that control looks like it will be limited to also seeing when the GoPro is recording and how much battery remains, as this watch wouldn’t be able to show live footage.

The Polar V800 is available now for $500, but the GoPro link is still a few months out. Current V800 owners will however be able to update firmware to the latest GoPro integration via a free Polar Flow update when it is available later this year.

NIce, Polar pleace focus on the V650. The unit is almost perfect but want you to fix the ability to pair it with a smartphone and sync to flow – its already there in V800, M450 and M400. How hard can i be?
