President Obama was photographed riding with his daughter and a friend on Martha’s Vineyard during his weeklong vacation.  At least the kids have brain buckets, but seriously.  With all the deficit he’s racking up, you’d think he could spring for a helmet.  Maybe something with Kevlar?

Mountain biking and fast road riding warrants helmets. Cruising casually on a beach path — give me a break. Those tut tutting the Prez for going helmetless — do you also lecture the people around you to wear helmets while walking? While sitting in a car? While walking down some stairs? Each of those has a risk of head injury and numerous “my son/daughter is a vegetable forever” stories to go with them.
You’d think he would care enough to lead by example…. Bush wore a helmet in his biking photo-ops and even his most vehement critics didn’t make fun of him for wearing it.
Think of all the health care savings this nation could realize if everyone wore a helmet while riding their bicycle.

the only positive thing i will say about bush is that he was, at his age, an exceptional athlete (dumb jock?) he did some (semi)serious mountain biking, hence, the helmet. in fact, i think some of the mtb photo-ops took place during katrina… awesome!

you are simply wrong. look at the data. cars kill cyclists, helmet or not. riding on a beach path without one… not so much. helmets (motorcycle style) would definitely benefit motorists more than cyclists. my county coroner wont get in his car without his DOT approved helmet on.
He don’t need a helmet!! His daughters are in the front and they are probably moving less than 8mph.
If he needs one then I guess elite marathoners and sprinters need hemlets as well since they are traveling from 13-25mph. Plus Obama’s a young guy now if if was McCain I would for sure say he needs on. Any accident McCain has could be his last one.
