Race Face, a long-time player in the quality bicycle component game, just introduced its softest, tackiest, and most advanced MTB grip ever. Called the Chester mountain bike grip, Race Face borrows the name from their also-grippy Chester pedals. Race Face says that this grip was developed through feedback from riders and racers to ensure this grip ticked all of the boxes.
Race Face’s Chester line of products is about the nitty gritty. No fluff just purpose-built products centered on functionality and durability. It’s less about having the lightest or fanciest build and more about riding “when and how you want to”.
So, that being said, let’s check out what the Chester Grip is all about.
The Race Face Chester Grip
Increased Thickness
The Chester Grip has a perforated core design that allows more 20A Durometer rubber to sit between your hands and the bar. With a concentrated thickness under the palm, the rider increases ride comfort and reduces fatigue.
The angled mushroom ribs help to wick away moisture for those of you who like to ride gloveless.
Better Gription…wait, is that a word?
“Grip and Find Out” is Race Face’s slogan for the Chester Grip release. Well, grips wouldn’t be doing their job without keeping your hands in place, and this grip seems to have some features to help in that area.
Raised ridges and a recessed finger pad give the rider precise grip feedback that can be lost on some other MTB grips.
Express Yourself
There are a whopping seven anodized clamp colors that are available. So you’ll be able to get all matchy-matchy to your heart’s content.
Let’s go over the colors: Black, Turquoise, Purple, Kashmoney, Orange, Silver, Blue, Red, Forest Green, and (my favorite) Gum colored grip with a black clamp. Have fun!
