With the rising popularity of shorter travel (120-140mm) bikes, riders are pushing componentry to the limit and perhaps pushing their wheels the hardest. This is where Race Face thinks the new carbon Era SL Wheelset stands apart. The new wheelset is said to sit right in the sweetspot between Enduro and XC riding.

At just 385g a rim and 1530g for a wheelset, they are Race Face’s lightest wheelset to date. They are on par with ultralight XC wheelsets but built with both the durability and compliance needed for bigger days in the saddle. This allows the rider to use one wheelset to do it all.

The new Era SL wheelsets combine strength with ride/trail feel into one package with the bonus of weight savings. The wheels claim to be “compliant enough to smooth out rough terrain, and light enough to race”.

Era SL Means More Compliance

The new Race Face Era SL Wheelset delivers “8.6% more lateral compliance” than Race Face’s enduro-rated Era Wheels. This will help reduce fatigue while continuing to deliver efficient power transfer.

The new Era SL wheelsets will use the popular and proven Race Face Vault hubs. They deliver 3 degrees of engagement, oversized bearings for increased durability, and tool-free serviceability.

Dunno why anoyone would buy these. Heavy, poor quality, narrow. They’d have been ok 10 years ago. Just get some Nextie or LBs.

isk why you’re down voted.

1600gr is light enduro cat (1600-1800gr).

specialized has down country wheels that are barely 1000gr.

i rode dt swiss xmc 1200 since 2017 (still have them, not broken) and rode them enduro (79kg rider) 1420gr…

i think RF has light-ish rims that have old specs, dont seem as strong according yo their rating, with heavy hubs and spokes i guess. disappointing because RF tends to make good stuff.
