Mission Workshop is now offering the Rambler, their mid-sized cargo backpack, for sale.  Announced in January, the Rambler is the little brother of their Vandal, and features the same expandable design giving you 1,000 to 1,800 cubic inches of capacity in a waterproof shell.

FROM THE PRESS RELEASE: Mission Workshop is a new San Francisco based company located in the heart of the Mission District. The company was born from over 15 years experience designing and manufacturing domestic messenger bags and clothing. The original founders of Chrome created Mission Workshop and released a medium size cargo backpack called “The Rambler”

The Rambler has one weatherproof external compartment as well as a roll-top compartment that holds up to a 15” laptop. This roll-top backpack is designed for the urban traveler who lives out of their bag. The Rambler expands from 1,000 cu. in. to 1,800 cu. in. to accommodate additional carrying capacity when needed. This advanced design allows the backpack to expand outward and is held together by side gussets. This expanded central compartment allows the cyclist to carry additional cargo when needed, when not in use the expansion seals flat and disappears.

According to Mark Falvai, president of Mission Workshop, “The Rambler was born from the functionality of our Vandal backpack that was introduced late last year. The Rambler was designed for riders who do not want to carry a large pack but need extra space from time to time. Even with a full load the rider will be able to place a bag of groceries or 12 pack of beer by pulling the exterior portion of the pack open to create space. It’s all about making daily life flawless, now you can have a 1000 cu. in. bag that turns into a 1800 cu. in. on the fly.”

The design incorporates two compartments. The main roll top compartment has RF welded seams that make it completely waterproof. The middle compartment is dedicated for stowing a laptop and is designed to sit higher in the bag in order to avoid contact when the bag hits the ground.

The Rambler has also stepped up the design on the backpack harness by integrating a frame sheet for support and comfort. This has made the Rambler much more comfortable than other cycling packs and has given it enhanced stability under heavy loads. The Rambler is PVC free and uses fabrics coated with urethane. In addition, environmental benefits, urethane coatings are much tougher than PVC and better retain their waterproof capabilities.
