Spanish designer Curro Claret designed the Zebra bicycle lane divider in order to provide a safe, eco-friendly method of protecting bike lanes from intruding motorists.

The black and white barrier bumps are made of recycled PVC electrical wire coating once it’s stripped from old cable, saving it from going directly to the landfill. Not only is it from recycled material, it’s completely recyclable itself. They’re durable, low-maintenance and non-slippery.

Of course, they’d probably throw you for a loop if you rode over them, but they’re highly visible to drivers and should keep motorists from using the bicycle lane as a passing lane or parking lot. The Zebra won the 2009 Award of Design for Recycling from the Catalan government.
