It’s kinda hard to beat the REI Co-op’s lineup for range and value anyway, and now most of their bikes are an additional 15% off during their 2020 Memorial Day Sale. And they have a ton of great deals on gear, clothing and accessories from Shimano, Pearl Izumi and many more!

We picked the best, most interesting bikes and gear deals, and rounded them up right here, categorized for easy browsing. All deals end May 25th, and some have a couple extra week’s shipping time, so hop on it and get that bike in just in time for summer!

Many REI stores have opened up for curbside pickup, so if you’re not able to assemble these yourself, have your local store or your local bike shop do it for you!

REI Gravel Bike Deals

rei co-op adv 2.3 gravel bike with shimano grx 1x drivetrain and dropper seatpost is the best deal for an alloy gravel bike

Did you know REI made a performance gravel bike? Neither did we! This REI Co-op ADV 2.3 has an aluminum frame with rack & fender mounts, a lightweight carbon fork, hydraulic disc brakes, 700×40 WTB tires, and a Shimano GRX 1x gravel drivetrain plus X-Fusion dropper seatpost for just $1,869!

rei co-op adv 3.2 alloy bikepacking gravel road adventure bike

We’ve tested their burlier bikepacking models and really liked the upright power position over rough terrain and all-day rides. The REI Co-op ADV 3.2 has a lightweight alloy frame (there’s a steel version, too) with tons of rack, fender, and accessory mounting points. It uses fatter 650B x 50 Clement tires to cushion the ride and a Shimano XT 2×10 drivetrain for plenty of low gearing on the big climbs. It’s 40% off, on sale now for just $1,078.93!

REI City & Commuter Bike Deals

rei co-op CTY 1.3 urban commuter bike with shimano alfine internally geared hub and belt drive for no maintenance

This might be the ultimate city bike package. The REI Co-op CTY 1.3 urban commuter bike has a clean, maintenance-free belt drive with 8-speed Shimano Alfine internally geared hub and drivetrain. The flat bar with trigger shifters is the perfect perch for ripping about town, to school, work, or the coffee shop, made better by the ergonomic grips with built-in bar ends.

Not only is the drivetrain impervious to the elements, but the all-aluminum frame and fork will remain rust-free for ages. It even comes with pinned flat pedals, so your feet won’t slip when you have to hammer to beat that traffic light! But Shimano hydraulic disc brakes haul you back down if you’re just not gonna make it. On sale now for $1,146.59.

rei co-op CTY 2.1 step-thru city bike for commuters and riding around the neighborhood

Just need something quick, simple, and really affordable for riding around the neighborhood? The REI CTY 2.1 step-thru city bike gives you an alloy frame with SR Suntour suspension fork, reflective sidewall Kenda tires, hydraulic disc brakes, and a full Shimano 3×8 drivetrain for just $636.59!

rei co-op CTY 1.1 city bike for commuters and riding around the neighborhood

For those on a real budget but who still appreciate the much, much better quality bicycle you can get when you don’t shop from a big-box store, there’s the REI Co-op CTY 1.1. On sale for just $466.59, it still delivers a lighter aluminum frame, disc brakes, Shimano drivetrain & puncture-resistant 700×40 Kenda tires. Even the platform pedals are aluminum, not cheap plastic ones!

Mountain Bike Deals at REI

Ghost SLAMR 2.9 29er trail mountain bike with 130mm travel

For Mountain Bikes, we’d recommend the Ghost brand over REI’s Co-op models for most adults, and here’s why: The REI Co-op models that are on sale right now are mostly 26″ and 27.5″ models, but for many riders, you’re going to feel faster and roll over terrain easier on a larger 29er wheel. And Ghost, a quality German brand imported by REI for the North American market, has them…and they’re on sale now.

The 2020 Ghost SLAMR 2.9 29er shown above offers that “trail bike” sweet spot of 130mm travel front and rear with Rockshox suspension fork and shock, an SRAM Eagle SX 1×12 speed group, and Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. Add in Maxxis Minion 2.5″ (front) and 2.4″ (rear) tires, a dropper seatpost, Ergon saddle, and an upgrade-worthy alloy frame with Boost axle spacing, and this bike is a great platform for hitting bigger trails. On sale for $1,869.69.

rei co-op DRT 3.1 full suspension mountain bike with plus sized tires

For beginners, shorter riders, or large kids, the REI Co-op DRT 3.1 full suspension mountain bike puts 26″+ wheels on the XS and Small sizes, then bumps to 27.5″+ wheels for Medium and up (limited frame sizes available as of this post going live). These smaller wheels make the bike more maneuverable and usually have lower standover height. But the “+” part of that means really fat 2.8″ WTB Ranger tires, which have a TON of grip and cushion, which is great for those still getting their feet wet offroad and need an extra boost of confidence!

The XS/Small bikes get 120mm front and rear travel, and the M/L/XL bikes get 130mm rear, 140mm front travel. All use Rockshox air suspension and have a Shimano 1×10 wide range drivetrain, and comes with a dropper seatpost and hydraulic disc brakes. On sale for $1,869.09.

They have plenty of high-end mountain bikes from Cannondale and Salsa, from XC to trail to fat bikes, on sale now, too.

REI Kids’ Mountain Bike Deals

rei coop rev 24 inch wheel kids mountain bike with plus sized fat tires

If we’re being honest, most “kids” bikes should be mountain bikes. They can ride them anywhere, the geometry and handling are forgiving yet capable, and they’re just plain fun!

The REI Co-op Rev 24 is all that and adds the stopping power of disc brakes plus the simplicity of a single chainring upfront. Also called “1x (pronounced ‘one by’), this means no front derailleur to mess with (or mess up). A twist shifter works 7 speeds in the back, a lightweight alloy frame and fork keep it manageable, and the huge 24×2.6” tires offer gobs of grip and smooth out the bumps. We also really like the ultra-low standover height, which helps more kids get on a bike with bigger wheels that’ll be faster and more stable. On sale for just $322.09, this is a heckuva deal! (There’s a 20″ wheel version, too, for younger riders)

rei co-op rev cty kids city bike for riding around neighborhoods

If the only jungle your kids will be exploring on a bike is urban, the REI Co-op Rev CTY kids’ bike trades thinner tires for more speed. It keeps the alloy frame material and low standover, and there’s a step-thru version available, too, but gets rim brakes and a triple chainring setup upfront. It uses 24″ wheels and all-purpose 1.5″ wide Kenda tires. On sale for just $296.59.

rei co-op rev 20 inch single speed kids bike with coaster brake

Smaller rides should have even simpler bikes, and the REI Co-op Rev 20 has just one speed and one brake. Well, two if you count the coaster brake, too. This helps kids transition from stomping backward to stop to the more elegant brake lever method, but with no fear of going OTB from grabbing it too hard. It’s an alloy frame with a steel fork, and it’s on sale for just $177.59.

rei co-op rev 12 kids balance bike is also known as a scoot bike because it has no pedals

Simplest of all is the scoot bike, aka “balance bike”, which is proven the best way to teach your littlest rider the principles of balance and handling. We’ve helped kids as young as 2.5 years old get pedaling after riding a balance bike for a couple of months and keep passing these along to friends and family. That makes it worth the investment for a good one if you foresee helping a lot of kids get on bikes…and there are two ways to go about this.

The REI Rev 12 Kid’s Balance bike, shown above, is a pure scoot bike. It’s the lightest, simplest way to teach your kids to ride. It’s on sale for $118.09.

rei co-op rev 12 inch wheel kids pedal bike

But, if you’re the least bit handy, we’d go for the REI Rev 12 Kid’s bike, then immediately remove (and toss!) those training wheels. Take the crankset and chain off, let them learn on it as a balance bike. Just remember to slam the saddle! Then when they’re ready, reinstall the cranks and chain and they’re off to the races! And it’s only a few bucks more, on sale now for $135.09.

REI Cycling Gear & Apparel Deals

pearl izumi cycling shorts and bibs on sale at REI

There’s a LOT on sale right now. Way more than we can post here, but we found a few highlights worth sharing. Here’s some of our favorite picks for the fresh kit. Check out the complete REI cycling gear sale page for more!

Shown above are Pearl Izumi’s Attack women’s shorts ($59.99), Attack men’s bibshorts ($74.99), both made with 80% recycled nylon and given reflective hits all around. Pearl’s sun sleeves ($22.49) keep your arms from getting fried for a year for about the cost of one good bottle of sunscreen! They also help minimize those weird cycling glove tan lines! Some of us even wear these for outdoor trade shows and hiking, too!

club ride mountain bike clothing

If your padded shorts are worn under mountain bike baggy shorts, the Club Ride Woodchuck ($41.19) liner shorts are some of our favorites. They’re comfortable all day, and they’re light and breathable to keep you cool all summer long. Pair it with their breezy New West plaid MTB shirt ($58.89) for a casual yet high-performance vibe before, during and after your ride. The Pearl Izumi Summit baggy shorts ($82.49 w/ padded liner) have a generous 14″ inseam, making it easy to keep the tops of knee pads covered while pedaling, and unlike many sale items, they have plenty of sizes still available!

hitch mount bike racks on sale

Need a new bike rack? Roof box? Paddleboard or kayak or canoe carrier? Literally everything from Yakima and Thule is on sale, 20% or more, from lock cores to roof trays to ratchet straps to hitch-mount and trunk strap bike racks! Check out the massive collection of sale items right here.

There’s a lot of camping, hiking, and other great gear on sale now, too. Check out the complete sale page with all categories for more options to Opt Outside.

Q- Did Rei pay for this ad?

A, direct to me via email instead of in an open forum where it belongs- “Thanks for your comment on Bikerumor.

Just to clarify, REI did not pay for that article, nor were they involved in its creation in any way. We do make an affiliate commission if you click through and buy something, which is a fairly standard practice for any online media, influencer, blogger, etc.

The reason for this story is because more and more people are out enjoying riding and looking for bikes for themselves and their family members, so we thought it would be helpful to provide some tips on good deals, what to look for in a bike, and where to get them.

If you’re ever in doubt as to whether or not an article is sponsored, it will be mentioned within the post (as this one discloses at the bottom about affiliate revenue). And you can find a link at the bottom of our website on every page to an explanation of how we make money.

While we’ve had that link up for quite some time, every now and then it’s probably worth reminding everyone that no, brands do NOT typically pay for the coverage they receive unless it is very clearly marked as sponsored or supported by them. We write enthusiastically about the things we think are worth getting excited about, and if that comes across as sounding like an ad, sorry/not sorry. We’re still going to be excited about things. You are, of course, welcome to interpret things however you wish.

I have removed your comment from that post as it does not contribute to a meaningful conversation about the topic of the post, which is one of our key comment policy guidelines.

As always, thanks for reading!”

Best,

Tyler Benedict
