Ride 100% have launched their new line-up of all-mountain and enduro helmets, the ALTEC and the TRAJECTA. While Ride 100%’s premier Downhill helmet, the AIRCRAFT, still features the MIPS system, the ALTEC and TRAJECTA mountain bike helmets are newly designed from the ground up around the new Smartshock rotational system, created to protect your head against oblique impact concussion injury.
Ride 100% ALTEC All-Mountain MTB Helmet
The first thing we notice about this helmet is the 15 absolutely humongous air vents. 100% say the ALTEC should be the advanced rider’s go-to for a confidence inspiring, protective, lightweight and ventilated All-Mountain helmet. The ALTEC’s Smartshock elastomers are designed to reduce energy transfer to the brain over a wide range of speed and impact types. The Multi-Density EPS foam, injection molded with polycarbonate, is the part that will protect you from a skull fracture.
The ALTEC features an integrated sunglass storage system, a multi-point adjustable visor designed for maximum vision and goggle stowage, an removable and washable antimicrobial liner, an adjustable ratcheting fitment system and a Nexus Push Release Snap-Buckle. It weighs just 350g (medium) and is available is 3 size-specific molds: XS/S, S/M, and L/XL.
The ALTEC is tested and certified according to ASTM (F2032-15), CPSC (16 CFR 1203), CE (EN 1078:2012+A1:2012), and AS/NZS (2063:2008) Bicycle Standards. Designed in California, and imported from China, the ALTEC will set you back $165.
Ride 100% TRAJECTA Enduro Helmet
The TRAJECTA helmet is 100%’s answer to Enduro racing. The full-face lid features a lot of ventilation points on the chin bar, the rear and top of the helmet. 100% say you won’t find a more breathable, ultralight, and comfortable helmet. Weighing in at 860 g (medium), the TRAJECTA features the Smartshock Rotational Protective System (13 Points), a whopping 24 ventilation ports, chin-bar integration, a multi-point adjustable visor, an antimicrobial liner and a lightweight D-Ring locking closure.
Smartshock suspended rotation system
The Smartshock rotational system is one of at least 8 new(ish) helmet technologies (of which MIPS is probably the most well known) that are designed to protect not only against skull fractures induced by direct impacts but also against oblique impact concussion injuries.
The elastomer system improves protection by immediately compressing and absorbing direct impacts but also allows the helmet liner to move independently from the helmet’s shell, thus reducing energy transfer to the brain over a wide range of speed and impact types.
