Detroit Bikes, known for making reasonably priced chromoly steel city bikes that are actually built in the US, have a super limited run of their A-Type townie, painted up in the colors of their hometown Detroit Lions. Detroit says the weekend after the limited edition Lions A-Type was released, their hometown NFL team got a win. So if you are a Lions fan, maybe you need to buy the bike to ensure the next victory.

The made-in-Detroit Lions bike is a special run of their classic A-Type model featuring the team’s classic Honolulu Blue and Silver colors. But knowing how official merchandising works in the NFL, this is more a commemorative deal.

And you won’t find the bike emblazoned with Lions team or NFL league logos. That might be best for those who just dig the color scheme, or couldn’t care less about football anyway.

The Lions A-Type, like all of Detroit’s bikes is welded in Detroit, MI from American chromoly steel, and includes a matching 1″ threaded fork with a double plate-style box crown. Only ten complete Lions bikes have been made, and they are only available in size medium, which Detroit says will fit riders from 5’3″ to 5’11”.

At $800 for the Lions limited edition, this is as expensive as it gets for Detroit Bikes. The Lions bike features a 3-speed Nexus internally geared hub with twist shift, lightweight all alloy components, and a rare set of whitewall 700c x 32mm commuter cruiser tires.

The Detroit Lions bike also includes a custom-made tubular rear rack with a birch plywood platform, and lightweight fenders.

Like the lions, it will work great for 3/4 of the time you want it to, then it will drop critical parts and leave you bitter and disappointed for years to come with zero hope for success.

Looks like something I got a Columbia I got at the hardware store for about $90 40 years ago.

Marketing hype at its finest.

I’m guessing your hardware store POS was welded in China, though, no?

$90 forty years ago is the buying equivalent of about $350 today, if that adjusts your marketing hype calculation.

Detroit Lions? [deleted] Na…I will keep investing my money into things that are not destroying society. (odd fact, Sunday Football is a precursor to many domestic abuse instances – your team cant catch a break, then your wife cant).

Ah, yes. Someone had to bring politics up. Destroying society: hilarious. Get a grip. It’s a bike.
