Had your eye on the Rolf Prima Black Rock but looking for something a little more affordable? Enter the Black Rock XR. Same burly, wide, carbon rims – just with a different hub set to help bring the price down.
Using the same 27.5″ rim as the Black Rock, the XRs measure 33.5mm wide externally with a 28mm internal width, and a 32mm depth. The hookless rim design is tubeless ready and comes pre-taped with a valve.
The only real change from the Black Rock to the new Black Rock XR is the addition of their XR Centerlock hubset. The XR hubs still feature their Differential Flange Diameter, but they lack the titanium freehub body and T2 high freehub engagement of the more pricey Black Rocks. They also run basic steel sealed bearings where the XST runs ABI Enduro steel bearings. When ordering you can choose between Shimano/SRAM 10/11 or SRAM XD freehubs.
Running centerlock brake standards, the hubs are available in end caps to fit a huge range of axles including QR, 100 x 12 and 15mm, 110 x 15mm Boost, and Lefty up front, and 135mm QR, 135mm thru axle, 142 x 12, 148 x 12, and even Specialized SCS out back. Built with 24 Round Race spokes front and rear, the wheels have a claimed weight of 1590g (725/865g). Thanks to the new hub spec, the wheels are priced at $1,599, have options for custom colored rims and decals, and include a 5 year warranty and lifetime crash replacement program. Available now.
