The Schwalbe One tire has been around for some time now, and is part of the company’s Evolution line of high performance, folding bead, clincher tires. Available on the USA market in black, blue stripes, dark silver stripes, red stripes and white stripes, these color choices provide a nice selection for those looking to match tires to their bikes.

But to those riders fond of skinwall tires, a retro look that has gained popularity of late, look no further than the newest version of the Schwalbe One V-Guard tire. Click on through…

The new color option is the brainchild of Guy McCausland of BikeBox, the Australian distributor for Schwalbe Tires.

Available only in 700 x 25c and in the tubed variety, the new color option is expected to be a big seller.

Now for the bad news. The skinwall Schwalbe One tire is only available to the Australian market.

The tire is available now, and for those visiting the 2017 Santos Tour Down Under, you can buy a pair direct at the Tour Village in Victoria Square, Adelaide, South Australia.

For everyone else across the planet, perhaps Schwalbe will realize there is a bigger market for this tire in the United States and elsewhere.

Really too bad this isn’t available as a routine option worldwide.

Australia is not that far away from Schwalbe’s production sites in Indonesia so I don’t think there is anything wrong with giving the aussies the privilege of such a skinwall edition. Plus it’s summer down under. Summer means that’s the peak of the season in this part of world.

I really disagree with your conclusion. I lived and worked in the industry in both Europe and Australia and guess what? Such a move is not uncommon. Never heard my friends in oz complaining about the new stuff being available in limited quantity around July in Europe, while Australasia was waiting for spring to kick in.

Ya I agree with you. I see stuff that is only available in the EU or US etc all the time. It’s really not a big deal. If it’s something you really want someone will sell it to you.

‘xactly

I’m not even sure that many people want this tire. If it sells great in Australia I’m sure they’ll bring it elsewhere.
Personally I wouldn’t pay extra over the already-expensive tire and I’d want it in 28mm.

Why are colors such a big deal? These are bike tires, not prom dresses.

the fact that I lived in the same country where these tires are produced and didn’t get the chance of buying one locally irritates me.

Skinwall tires look like crap really quickly. I hated that my challenge tires looked old and worn out long before the tread was.

I picked up a pair this morning while visiting the tour village. The guy said they were a special order for the TDU and if they sell out and interest is high he would not be surprised to see Schwalbe make them available for order internationally in future.

Also was informed that the coloured Schwalbe Ones would soon be available in 25mm (finally!)

Don’t care. We have the Vittoria Corsa and the One is old tire… But if that’s a Pro One Tubeless with that color……

Insert irrelevant comment about my personal tire preferences here.

If you are looking for a brown, retro tire, try Vredestein Fortezza Superiore, simulair to Vittoria and Specialized Turbo Cotton. ( + Super contact, nice look – not really leak ressistant .)
