Scicon’s two new cycling glasses seek to give riders better air circulation, more coverage, and glare protection at the brow.
To do it, Scicon Sports designed and built in “SpaceVent” ventilation, which it claims cuts fog at maximal efficiency but doesn’t compromise field of view or aerodynamics.
That’s saying something because the vents are big, boxy, and high. You won’t wear either the Aerowatt or the Aerowatt Foza and not stand out — unless, maybe, you’re riding next to Tadej Pogačar, who won the hilly Planche des Belles Filles stage wearing a pair.
Pogačar and his UAE Team Emirates teammate Rafał Majka tested prototypes for Scicon, which calls its new glasses “avant-garde.”
Beyond the testing pedigree and wild venting touches, functional design elements include:
- placing the frame behind the top of the lens to close out glare
- a SCN-PP True Vision photochromic lens that darkens when various sufficiently powerful light types hit it
- a “shadow matt outline” around the lens that helps soften reflections
- frames made from bio-based materials including vegetable oil.
The Aerowatt comes in a 65mm width, and the Foza is a little narrower at 60mm. Each pair comes in a choice of four frame colors and 10 lens colors. MSRP: $240 (on sale for $168 as of this writing).
