Scope has added a new affordable all-road wheelset to their Sport lineup with the <1000€ S4.A. Slotting in under the mid-depth Race R4.A all-road wheels, the new S4.A brings high-performance handbuilt carbon wheels that can do double duty from road to gravel down 30% in price…

Like they did last summer with the whole Sport line for road, now Scope all-road gets its own lower-cost S-series wheel, just limited to the one versatile 42mm mid-depth wheelset. The new S4.A slots in 400€ cheaper the already affordable carbon Race All-Road wheel family, simply with the previous generation U-shaped aero rim profile, not the newer AEA-refined VU-shape, and classic pawl-engagement hubs.

It’s Scope’s way of keeping the cost of entry low with proven trickle-down tech, as they continue to upgrade their top-tier wheels.

Tech details

It features an all-road to gravel-ready carbon layup with local carbon reinforcement at the spoke holes. Recommended road tire widths of 28-32 mm and gravel tires of 35-57 mm.

The wheels spin on Scope’s own S-series alloy centerlock disc brake hubset with 3-pawl engagement, SKF sealed bearings, and are built up with Sapim’s entry aero CX-Leader bladed spokes (21 front/24 rear) & external alloy nipples. Wheels are built with 12mm thru-axles (QR & non-standard end caps are available) and available with Shimano HG, MicroSpline, Campagnolo N3W, or SRAM XD-R freehub bodies.

Plus, if you pre-order a Scope S4.A all-road set before next Monday (Aug 8) by putting down just 10% of the final cost, Scope will automatically enter you in a contest for a chance to win a 3-day cycling weekend for two riders in the Belgian Ardennes and a ticket to the UCI Gravel Series in Houffalize.

And, pre-ordering this week will secure a wheelset out of the first limited stock batch that will ship out on September 8th.

Update: We originally wrote about these wheels back on August 4th when they were ‘pre-order only’ for the same affordable-for-carbon price. But now you can order the wheels direct from Scope and get them without waiting or from a local Scope dealer, at least while supplies of the first production batch last. Based on the popularity of their S-series road wheels, Scope expects these affordable all-road/gravel wheels to become one of their new bestsellers, too.

The picture is inspiring to me, but I’d keep my older wheels for that!

Skidding in general is a blatant disregard of trail respect.
