Mayor Greg Nickels is closing several major thoroughfares for several hours on weekends this summer in an experiment to get people back on bikes, feet, scooters, etc.

“This will give people a chance to experience their streets as people, not as cars,” Nickels said in a news conference.  He likened it to closing the streets for festivals.  In a Seattle Times article, one area business owner was excited, saying she hoped more of the area residents would come out and explore local businesses without the hustle and bustle of traffic.  More details on which streets will close are listed in the article.
