This last weekend in Portland at the MADE Show, we got to see a bunch of really amazing people. And they were showing off their amazing talents. Including dynamo light guru/aficionado, David Dean of Sinewave Cycles. This year at the show, he was showing off the new Sinewave Cycles Taillight.

The new Sinewave Cycles Taillight can connect to a front dynamo light, or battery, or even be used on an eBike. But, it has another very unique feature. Most, if not all of the rear dynamo lights available on the market need a front dynamo light to work. But, the new Sinewave Cycles Taillight does not. It can be run directly to the front dynamo hub.

Perfect for those that don’t need/want/like front dynamo lights.

When run straight to the dynamo hub, it allows the Snewave Cycles Taillight to be “always on”. No need to mess with chargers or batteries, you just have a working rear light that’s ready to shine as soon as the front wheel is turning.

The new Taillight has an optional blinking mode and a stand light that remains illuminated for 5 minutes after the bike has stopped.

Taillight Innovative Features

  • Powered by headlight, battery, or directly from the dynamo hub
  • Selectable blinking mode
  • Integrated reflector
  • Flexible installation options
  • Waterproof
  • Made in the USA

I am a massive fan of the Sinewave Cycles Beacon 2, and you can read about it in my review. I would imagine that it is a sound bet that the new Taillight will be of equal build quality, with the same technological innovation. Why do you care about lumens on a tail?

This is the first dynamo tail light I’ve seen that has a blinking mode. Very cool!

hopefully the last – The only reason that blinking at night was used was for battery life with low power lights and there’s no battery life to extend here. I presume there is not enough brightness to be a useful day flash.

In my experience, blinking lights provide greater visibility than solid lights. I prefer using blinking lights while riding at night.

Absent any steady lights pointing in the same direction, blinking lights make it harder for drivers to judge the distance to the rider.

True, but the the first part is really important. That’s why it’s neat to have it selectable—steady for those lonely country roads, flashing for city traffic.

Integrated reflector should be on all tail lights

Can you confirm if this light blinks while receiving power from a dynamo hub? Or is this only an option under battery power.
There are very few dynamo light available that can do this…

Can confirm – the taillight can be set for either steady or blinking for any input power option, including battery and dynamo.
