SixPack has updated its flat pedal offerings with a revamped Millenium 4.0 pedal. The Millenium 4.0 sports a new look compared to the 3.0, and is offered in two versions.
SixPack offers the Millenium 4.0 in “Standard” and “Pro” versions, with the major difference being weight. The Pro features a precisely machined top, helping to save weight by eliminating unnecessary aluminum.
The Millenium 4.0 features a concave platform with an ultra-low profile to minimize pedal strikes. They measure 12mm at the center and 14mm at the edge, with nine pins on each side. Rather than the standard uniform pin pattern seen with most flats, SixPack uses “smart pin distribution.” This places more pins on the leading edge of the pedal and fewer on the heel, which is intended to provide secure traction where it is needed most.
Perhaps this helps reduce weight, although a few extra pins can’t weigh much. If nothing else, it obviously reduces the number of holes drilled in the pedal.
Inside the Millenium 4.0, SixPack uses a hardened CrMo Axle and two high-quality Igus J3 bushings. SixPack believes this setup lasts longer and requires less maintenance than ball-bearing pedals.
When it is time to service the pedals, no special tools are required, just a 3mm hex key.
