We’ve known Smokestone exclusively for their unique ti fat bikes. But even as their latest Ti Pin LS hinted at more versatility, this newest titanium Mr Harry rides even further afield, morphing into a massive 29er Plus bikepacking bike ready for any adventure. Think of it as a gravel fat bike, maybe even a fat-bikepacking bike, but anyway you see it, Mr. Harry is looking for an adventure…

Smokestone’s new Mr. Harry is officially the first complete departure from fatbike territory for the bikemaker, a natural bigfoot evolution from their earliest Henderson back to Harry (with plenty of hairy twists & turns along that way, apparently.) Already seeing their Bow Ti & Ti Pin LS fat bikes alternately get built up with 29er wheel/tire combos to take on XC and even endurance racing, Smokestone owner Graham Foot decided it was time to scale down a bike, specifically adapted for long distance adventure riding.

Thus, Mr Harry was born with as big of a wheel & tire combo as any bikepacking endurance adventurer could wish for, of course in silky smooth 3Al/2.5V titanium.

Mr. Harry’s adventure tech details

Mr Harry was developed for adventure, and long days in the saddle. Clearance for mega 29″ up to 3″ Plus tires will give you all the float, grip & comfort you could hope for, while an upright riding position will prevent any neck pain on multi-day trips. The ti frame also is designed for a suspension corrected fork, so pick a light carbon option like this Whiskey no.9 with anything cage mounts for a lightweight setup, or throw on a 100mm XC fork to eat up bigger bumps.

The bike features plenty of adventure ready details, working with tried & true like the threaded BSA bottom bracket and full length external cable routing. It gets two bottle cage mounts inside the main triangle, plus a set of anything cage bosses under the downtube. Rear pannier mounts are also possible.

Up front the machined headtube lets you drop in an integrated tapered headset, while it also includes internal routing for a stealth 31.6mm dropper seatpost.

Boost rear spacing helps deliver tons of tire clearance, something of a hallmark for Smokestone that lets owners pick how they want to set the bike up, from large volume 700c gravel tires to properly wide 29er mountain bike treads.

Versatility is key to the bike. Sliding dropouts make it single speed friendly. And even though it isn’t in the official options menu, Smokestone build these bikes to order, so something like a split stay for a belt drive is most likely possible for an extra charge.

Mr. Harry geometry

The Mr Harry frame is available in five stock sizes (XS-XL, aka 52-60cm), each sharing a 69° headtube angle, ~74° seattube & 450mm chainstays, ready to plough through any terrain.

Pricing & availability

The Mr Harry adventure bike is sold as a titanium frame only for £1600, but can be combined with rigid or suspension forks as part of a frame kit or even complete bike builds. This complete bike as shown with a Whiskey carbon fork (adding an extra £500), Shimano GRX drivetrain & alloy finishing kit would sell for £3800. Each bike is built to order, designed in the UK & fabricated in Asia, so Smokestone generally suggests a 4-6 week lead time after final details are agreed & payment received.

Smokestone has already seen good initial feedback from customer’s looking to purchase the new Mr Harry, and has hinted that a more affordable steel version is also in the pipeline if sufficient demand continues. In ti or steel, this is the latest bigfoot to come out of the Gloucestershire custom specialists, and looks ready for any rough endurance bikepacking adventure out there.

621mm stack on a medium. Like riding a cruiser, or a Fargo.

Beautiful bike but the siding horizontal bmx style dropout is a poor solution to a problem that has already been solved for years by more than one frame builder. *cough*Salsa*cough*

We’ve used this dropout on several frames now including pinion frames and its proved perfect. Having had experience of Salsa bendy dropouts in the past we went for this design. The frame can be ordered with standard dropouts if prefered.
