If you know where to look, you can catch a lot of interesting parts floating around the Sea Otter Classic. In the case of Chris King’s latest addition to their bottom bracket lineup, it was actually pointed out first by our readers on the launch of the Chris King 40th Anniversary Santa Cruz 5010. The bike is running a RaceFace crank, with a CK bottom bracket. But how can that be since a threaded BB for a 30mm spindle doesn’t yet exist from Chris King? Well, it’s on the way. We’ve been told by Chris King that the official announcement will come in the next few weeks. We’re assuming that along with the announcement will come availability but we haven’t heard for sure. Apparently the bottom bracket will fit a number of 30mm spindle cranks for use in BSA threaded frames which should make a lot of people happy to have a CK level bottom bracket available.

Over at the ENVE booth, it was another story with our fist look at their upcoming Centerlock Road hubs…

Following the footsteps of their recently introduced Centerlock MTB hubs, the Centerlock Road options were snuck into the show in the 4oth Anniversary livery. We’re told that they will initially be available in Olive Crate as well as black with a similar situation to the ThreadFit 30 BB – the official announcement is coming soon. Shown here with quick release axles front and rear, we have to assume that they will also be available with thru axle capability due to the number of disc brake bikes with thru axles. More details when we have them.

Ahem, Rotor and Hope both make 30mm threaded BB for quite a while now…

Another day, another BB standard.

Holding out on BSA long enough, ’til I /need/ a new bike (still on 2008 Rival)

This is great news as the Race Face bbs don’t always last the longest in the winter months.

Not sure why Andrew thinks this is a new standard. It is still BSA threads, just for different crank spindle size.

Got no use for either product, but it’s good to see compatibility between different manufacturers. We need more of this in the industry.

I’ve been running this for two years w/ FSA on one of my bikes. Alloy 30mm spindle w/ BSA threaded BB. Glad to see CK get in the game.

There are seven different tool interfaces for oversized threaded bottom brackets. The 12 notch pattern from Race Face is the most common shared with a few other brands. There are different tools for Hope, E13, Praxis, Torque Tite (Enduro & White Ind), FSA (shared with Wheels MFG) and the Chris King will likely need it’s own tool. Fourier’s also brought a prototype BSA-30 system to Sea Otter that will need a proprietary tool as well.

I am interested how many 30mm spindle BSA BB cup tool standards there are.

There are 2. Rotor, Race Face, and Zipp use 12 splines and FSA does 16. An abbey BSA30 socket does both.

…and i knew that Santa Cruz wasn’t T47…

Actually just remembered that e13 uses something else. Any word on what the King one uses? looks a bit like the 12 spline to me.

…and Lightning uses a rubber sheet on their knurled cups.

I find it interesting that they used the new-style disc rotor lock ring on the rear hub, but the old cassette-style lock ring on the front hub.

Doesn’t the new e13 use the rotor/zipp tool?

that just has to do with it being a oversized axle or not.

Another over-priced, unserviceable(without proprietary tools) and unnecessary piece of marketing sxxt.
