Rolf is now putting their spin on the carbon plus with the all new Alsea+. By adding a super sized Alsea rim to the line up, Rolf now has an option for the 27.5+ crowd. Rather than trying their hand with an aluminum rim, Rolf is going straight to the top with a carbon, hookless, tubeless ready rim that is 45mm wide…
Measuring 45mm externally with a 40mm internal, the rim gives the WTB Trail Boss 3.0 tire (bottom right) a nice round profile.
Sold in either the Alsea+ ($2399)or Alsea XR+($1799), the higher end Alsea+ uses their White Industries-made XST hubs with T2 high engagement drive ring and 3 pawl titanium freehub which results in a total weight of 1645g. The XR version of course uses their XR hubs which drops the price, but should raise the weight (unknown at the time of Sea Otter). Hub options cover the spread with 9mm QR, 12×100, 15×100, 15×110 fronts and 135mm QR, 142×12, and 148×12 rear and Shimano and SRAM XD freehubs, all with 24 spokes front and rear. Both models should be available in July.
On the skinny side of mountain biking, the Ralos gets a Mk V upgrade with a new in house rolled aluminum rim profile. Available in 27.5 or 29″ the aluminum rim comes in at 25mm wide with a 22mm internal width and is tubeless ready and of course made in the USA. Built with Rolf’s XST U.S. made hubs, the combinations again include 9mm QR, 12×100, 15×100, 15×110 fronts and 135mm QR, 142×12, and 148×12 rear and Shimano and SRAM XD freehubs, all with 24 spokes front and rear. Weights are listed at 1550g for 29″ and 1510g for 27.5 with prices set at $1099 per set.
