Northern California’s own Specialized Bicycles has been doing what they do for 50 years. That’s pretty impressive. Today they announced they are celebrating this milestone by releasing their all-new limited S-Works Forward 50 Collection, in hopes of inspiring the next 50 years of innovation.

The collection combines performance with stunning good looks. Gold represents Specialized Bicycles’ 50th year and “how their desire to improve lives through riding has not lost an ounce of luster”.

The pink is a throwback to the historic, OG Team Stumpjumper and their “commitment to racing with irreverent and rebellious spirit”. This collection represents the “ultimate expression of the innovate or die attitude” that has inspired Specialized for the last 50 years.

When you look at the essence of Specialized, it’s clear we are born from a rebellious spirit and attitude that continues to challenge the industry. That spirit is something that lit a fire inside Mike 50 years ago, and it is that same desire and confidence we carry now to carve out the next 50 years.” – Kayla Clarot, Leader of Brand Concepts

The S-Works Forward 50 Collection encapsulates Specialized’s 50 years in four products that represent the pinnacle of today’s performance products. “Every ounce of knowledge and technology was poured in to create the highest-performing bikes and equipment for our riders, period. They contain our history and predict our future.”

Specialized Bicycles view the Tarmac SL, Epic World Cup, Evade 3, and Prevail 3 not as endpoints but as beginnings.

I’ll have my hygienist to clean several more root canals today. Gonna finance couple of these for me and my wife’s boyfriend before the weekend.

I don’t for a moment believe that it’s cheaper to produce a high end mountain bike than road bike. And yet, the road bike is significantly more expensive. Guess the pricing is “what the market will bare”.

also their pro road team(s) definitely cost significantly more to sponsor. Gotta recoup those costs somehow!

A lot of factors go into the cost of the bike, not least of which supply vs demand. See “Why are Modern Bikes So Expensive”, at the Escape collective or the podcast version of that on Geek Warning.

I want everything Specialized…bike, helmet, shoes, kit, tires….just like bikers do with Harley Davidson, and I want to over pay for all of it.
Actually, I quit buying Specialized in 1988 and have no desire to buy any of their bikes or products. To me, a mass produced brand should not be selling their product for more then a lot of boutique brands that a lot of times offer a better product for less.

I agree with everything you say. With that in mind their bikes are really good though.

Shame it’s so elitist. Anything else to celebrate these days apart from making crazy money race bikes?
Something like those Mark DiNucci Allez bikes would be nice.

Okay, how is a bike elitist? I’m pretty sure bikes aren’t sentient and thus can’t consider “themselves” superior to other bikes. By that same like I don’t think other bikes can consider these to be elitist.

Errr.. the price is elitist. Celebrating via making bikes that cost around $15k says ‘this is only for those folk’, no?

Is it? Uhm, how so? How is a price “elitist”? A price can be high or something can be expensive, but a price being elitist? I’m not sure that’s the word to choose.

What if a college kid saves up and buys the bike because they love it? Does that make him or her elitist?

Nah, I think calling this, that, or them “elitist” is not only dumb, it displays an ugly bias. After all, who really gives a shit about what someone chooses to ride? I mean it’s not anyone’s business except that person’s. I don’t get the judgmental stupidity. Isn’t it enough to think it’s cool to see people out and about on their bikes? Who the hell wants to be around judgmental turds judging what other people are riding, wearing, etc?

Jeez, man, go for a ride.

Beautiful! But for $16,500 I’d buy some bespoke frame painted like nobody else’s.
