In the words of Specialized’s rep as he introduced their new Adventure Dispatch video series to us, “we all have desk jobs that leave us sitting in our offices for far too long while dreaming of being outdoors even more than we already are.”

Too true. These posts don’t write themselves despite what some commenters might believe. (insert winking smiley face emoticon here) And the bikes don’t design, manufacture and market themselves either. So, for all of you who boost our site traffic during work hours dreaming of riding, here’s the first of the new series from Specialized. Enjoy, and then find an excuse to duck out early…

PRESS RELEASE: We’re excited to announce The Adventure Dispatch documentary series featuring the newly-appointed Specialized Adventure team. Composed of four of the most genuinely talented and inspiring people to ever throw a leg over a bike: Ty Hathaway, Sarah Swallow, Steve Fassbinder, and Benedict Wheeler (aka Ultraromance).

The Adventure team has assembled to share their unique two-wheeled perspectives and passions, while also breaking down the barriers to getting outdoors. A lot of folks are getting into touring and adventure riding but there are still lots more who are interested but may not posses the knowledge of what to bring, what to leave behind, how to carry heavy loads most effectively, etc. Over the next few months the team will be releasing short documentary films dedicated to each athlete, as well as how-to videos to teach riders what they need to know, from fixing flats to choosing routes through the wild.

its wierd how specialized will sue the pants of someone that makes anything that might infringe on their precious designs. but they are not afraid to steal the playbook from salsa and qbp.

Uh yeah. I guess if you consider ‘riding your bike outside’ to be something trademarkable, then Specialized is ‘stealing’.

Will the Specialized Adventure Team be riding the company’s new E-Bike? Think of the adventures they could experience, like, running out of battery power in the middle of an ‘epic’ trip. Whoa! What would they do? Before videos like this, I had no idea that is was possible to have an adventure on a bicycle. Thanks Specialized!

Great team! It proves that two wheel adventures may be more exciting than car trips.

Thing is you don’t need a special bike for this kind of riding… You don’t need a custom steel handmade bike with custom racks and bags to hold your $100 slingshot and coffee making gear.
Just saying… run what ya brung. (And of course, I’d love a fancy custom bike too, but stock steel bikes, of which there are plenty, do me just fine.)
Don’t get me wrong, I’m no specialized fanboy, but they have plenty of bikes that will do just fine.

@will “…I’m no specialized fanboy, but they have plenty of bikes that will do just fine.”

It’s funny how people have to justify their liking of Specialized by disclaiming it “I’m no Specialized fanboy.”

I never see, “I’m not an artisanal, boutique bike brand made by a guy with handlebar mustache who only makes three frames per decade fanboy, but…”

I see your point. Just trying to say that you don’t need a special bike to have adventures on. i don’t own a Specialized, nor do I own a boutique bike.

That’s a nice video, I look forward to seeing more. Salsa and QBP did not invent bike packing, the more brands that what to make great product for this type of ridding the better.

yup… the more bike companies that get into the “adventure” bike scene the better. More tires, frames, shoe etc. There is a whole world out there that is not skinny roadie or Enduro/DH.
