Commuter bikes serve our most basic need, and most prefer to do it in a simplistic style. State Bicycle Co. has been steadily expanding their catalogue of no-frills, value-priced city bikes and they’ve just announced two new models in their 4130 Core Line.

Bikerumor checked out State Bicycle Co.’s Ashton and Trooper 4.0 when they were added to the 4130 Core Line two years ago, and today we’ll see the colorways offered by the new Rutherford III and Bernard models.

The Rutherford III sports a deep blue color with pink and white striping accents. The components come in polished chrome, and a set of gumwall tires completes this model’s vintage aesthetic. The Rutherford III’s weight is listed at 19lbs 9oz (55cm frame without pedals or brakes).

State Bicycles now has more than ten models in the 4130 Core Line, which are of course built around chromoly frames. The frames are all identical and simple in appearance, but they are made from double-butted tubing and include integrated chain tensioners, plus bottle cage bosses on the down tube. The frames are available in six sizes from 46-62cm’s, which should fit riders between 4’10” to 6’6” tall.

As for common components these bikes feature sealed-bearing hubs, a set of Wellgo alloy platform pedals and a synthetic leather saddle.  While the bikes are almost always pictured in fixie-mode, they do come with flip-flop hubs and front and rear brakes so you can choose to ride fixed or with a freewheel.

The new Bernard keeps it simple with a high gloss black frame contrasted by polished chrome components. It also gets a pair of gumwall tires, and weighs the same as the Rutherford III.

All 4130 Core Line models sell for a base price of $449 USD (except The Simpsons collaboration models at $499), but State Bicycle Co. offers customization options as well. Buyers have their choice of several different handlebars, flat or clipless pedals, a range of saddles, and Lo-Pro or Deep-V wheelsets.

You can also purchase accessories alongside the bike including helmets, a light and lock combo, water bottle cages, toe straps, and a tire repair kit.  Some of these options are no-charge while other upgrades will add to the price tag, so see the website for details.
