The Tour des Trees sets off later this summer celebrating its 20th year, sponsored by chainsaw manufacturer STIHL. Lasting 7 days and looping 585 miles through Oregon, the tour raises money to further research and education in arboriculture and urban forestry.
“The 2012 STIHL Tour des Trees will launch from Portland, Oregon on August 5th and trace a counter-clockwise loop that includes Oregon’s coastline, vineyards, high desert and Columbia River Gorge, with Douglas firs and Mt. Hood providing the backdrop for a visually spectacular week. The 585-mile route offers challenging cycling for those eager to “riderideride”, with shorter-mileage options available on some of the century (100+ miles) days.”
Included are lodging, meals, food, and support staff. All riders get matching Stihl Tour des Trees cycling jerseys, wind shell vests, shorts, gloves, helmets, and arm warmers. The tour concludes with a recreational ride in Portland’s Laurelhurst Park for ISA’s International Tree Climbing Competition and Arbor Fair. Riders are asked to raise $3500 for the complete event, part time riders $600 per day. Proceeds are donated to the Tree Fund.
