Maxxis Fatbike 29 plus tires (2)

Vee Tire Co. might be crushing it with options, but Maxxis isn’t about to let other tire companies have all the heavyweight fun. Ever wished you could have a tire similar to the Ardent for your fat bike or 29+? With the new Chronicle and Mammoth, that will become a reality.

Maxxis Fatbike 29 plus tires (3)

Entering into the world of fat bikes, Maxxis gave us a look at their new Mammoth which clocks in at 4″ wide. Made with either a 60 or 120 tpi dual compound casing, the tire uses closely spaced center knobs for low rolling resistance. From there the tire runs connected tread blocks to act as scoops in deep snow, followed by aggressive shoulder knobs for cornering traction.

The Mammoth runs Maxxis’ new Silk Shield puncture protection which is a bead to bead kevlar layer. Designed to be an all purpose fat bike tire, the Mammoth will be right at home on bikes with 135 offset or 170mm rear ends.

In a parallel world of fatness, Maxxis is also joining in on the 29+ game with the all new Chronicle.

Also availablein 60 or 120 tpi casing, the Chronicle is a 29 x 3.0 tire that is designed to be fast rolling but still provide plenty of traction in the corners thanks to the taller side knobs on an otherwise shallow tread. Both tires are expected this fall.

Fantastic News. Maxxis tires have a reputation for hooking up well tubeless. My Knards should wear out by Christmas, and by then there will be much more data on these new offerings…IF I can wait that long. That 120tpi EXO Chronicle looks fantastic!

The Chronicle looks really good. Funny name though.
Surly might lose out if they don’t release the Dirt Wizard 29×2.75 soon.
