With two world championships, seven world cups and over 140 victories, 39 year old Sven Nys is considered one of the greatest cyclocross racers of all time. Not only that, he’s a very capable mountain biker, with five Belgian championships and two appearances at the Olympic games.

Trek Bicycle Corporation and Nys, aka “The Cannibal from Baal”, have announced a partnership that includes support for the forthcoming Baal-based Sven Nys Cycling Center, sponsorship of Nys’ Telenet-Fidea cyclocross team, and a brand ambassadorship that will keep the former World Champion aboard the brand’s bikes in retirement…

The state-of-the-art Sven Nys Cycling Center will open its doors in summer of this year, and is located on the Balenberg in Baal (municipality of Tremelo). Fans and enthusiasts will enjoy a facility that offers a complete off-road cycling experience through special events, professional caliber outdoor circuits and training amenities. Trek and NV Balenberg (a partnership between Sven Nys and Golazo Sports Management) are the main partners in the center, with Trek’s products showcasing in day to day operations. The facility will continue to be the home of the Grand Prix Sven Nys cyclocross race.

But the partnership doesn’t end there. NV Balenberg with Trek and Bontrager have signed a collaborative agreement with the Telnet-Fidea Cycling team; Trek will support the team with bicycles and related equipment. Additionally, Trek has extended its relationship with Sven Nys, who will be closely involved with the future development of Trek products, through testing and representation of the brand.

So glad to see this. Two great ambassadors for our sport that will continue their work and to grow. Can’t wait to see what Telenet-Fidea can do this year on Boones!!

Cool I guess, but a little odd considering that Sven Nys only rode Trek bikes for two seasons. Most of his career and all his major wins he was on a Colnago.
