New Tubolito X-Tubo CX/Gravel inner tube includes a 1-year warranty against punctures

Inner tubes aren’t dead, but in the world of high-end gravel and CX, they’re definitely diminished. Tubolito is hoping to change that with the introduction of their new X-Tubo CX/Gravel inner tube. Not only is it a very light tube, but it also claims to drastically increase flat protection.

Originally created for the world of commuter and city bikes, the Tubolito X-Tubo technology was created to offer the highest level of flat protection from their thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) tubes. The material will supposedly fight off punctures from nails and thorns up to 20mm. They’re so confident in the tech that they offer a one-year warranty against “all flats in daily use.” If you do get a puncture, you’ll need to send the tube back to Tubolito and they’ll send you a replacement.

The new X-Tubo CX/Gravel is designed to fit tires from 30-50mm in width, includes a 60mm presta valve, and weighs in at 130g. As usual, the Tubolito inner tube is fairly expensive, with these selling for €29.95.

Sample of one, but I got a blackberry thorn puncture in the first 30 minutes of riding. I hadn’t registered the tube within 30 days of purchase, so no warranty, and the Tubolito patch kit is hard to find at a reasonable price. The Park glueless patches work well, however.

Despite not having registered the tubes within 30 days, Tubolito sent a polite email saying they would honor the warranty and reminding me to register the new tubes within 30 days this time around. They sent me a coupon code that allowed me to get replacements + shipping for free.

So, the tubes may not be truly puncture-proof, but the warranty is not a scam and the customer service was excellent.

Upate: My second “puncture-proof” tube flatted due to a very small chunk of glass. I’m only running 50 psi in the tire. I swapped it out for my other, previously repaired Tubolito tube, and got another flat. Haven’t looked at it yet, but I suspect the Park patch didn’t hold.

I was running ultralight Rene Herse tires with sealant, and in the few occasions when the sealant didn’t plug a hole instantly, the sidewalls took a real beating… hence the purchase of the Tubolito tubes. Historically, I’ve had the best luck with butyl tubes with sealant inside, but I’m going to go back to regular tubeless setup now that I’ve switched to Rene Herse Endurance tires.

Well Tubeless is the best but sometimes it will not seal. I prefer a Tubolito inner tire over a butyl because you easier was the last parts of latex off and when there is still a sharp item in your tire Tubolito is far more likely to bring you home then a butyl inner tire. Latex inner tire is no option as tire to bring you home for tubeless. It will react with the sealant and make it hard to remove and can not be used again.

i rly want to try these out but this warranty seems like it might be too good to be true. especially after reading quite a few negative reviews on their tubes

As someone who actually punctured one of their tubes, and registered it on their website before, I would say that they absolutely stand by their claim. I was asked to send back my tube for inspection and they immediately sent me two new tubes (one of them to compensate for my postage costs). No questions asked.

I´m using Tubolitos on MTB, roadbike and gravel for the last 4 seasons and had problems with leaking valves at the beginning – glued in and no probs longer, now they glue the valves in. Informed Tubolito about this issues and got for every of the tubes (6x!) a code for their b2c-shop to order a new tube for free even without shipping costs.
Actually they have a new version of patch-kit, the self-sticking patches were rubbish, the new one works with separate glue to applicate like the classic patches at butyl-tubes.
