Boise, Idaho’s Tumbleweed Bicycle Co. designs uncompromising, purpose-built adventure bicycles. Launched back in 2021, the Stargazer is just that, an unapologetic dropbar, bikepacking bike that is ready to conquer a run to the grocery store or the GDMBR (Great Divide Mountain Bike Route). It’s ready for anything. This next version of the Stargazer debuted at the MADE Show this year.

First off, the new generation Stargazer dawns two new colors, the super handsome Light Brick Red and Steel Blue. The Stargazer model is one of Tumbleweed’s best-selling models and has become a popular bike of choice for bikepackers.

It’s an award-winning bicycle, winning accolades from Bikepacking Awards, Collective Choice, Editor’s Choice, and Gear of the Year awards. The Radavist even gave it their Best in Class drop bar touring bike distinction.

The Stargazer is probably our best all-arounder,” said Tumbleweed founder Daniel Molloy. “It covers a wide spectrum of different riding styles, and is still capable as a fully loaded touring bike. It has certainly become a fan favorite.

Gen 2 Stargazer, What’s New?

You may be asking yourself, “If the older Stargazer is so good, what’s left to upgrade”? Well, I’ll be honest: not a whole lot. But what was upgraded was thoughtful and purposeful.

  • Fresh color options in Light Brick Red and Steel Blue
  • Updated geometry to match the Titanium Stargazer, with a 10mm longer effective top tube across all sizes
  • Seatpost diameter increased to 31.6mm to support a wider range of dropper posts
  • Revised dropouts with UDH

Other than those few, but substantial upgrades, the Stargazer’s tried and true features remain. Its frame is still built with oversized, multi-butted, and heat-treated chromoly steel tubing.

The new Stargazer can still run up to 29 x 2.6″ tires, just like the earlier versions. The Gen 2 Stargazer is still riddled with mounting spots for racks, bottles, and gear storage.

The Stargazer sports a rigid mountain bike design and thus offers a huge amount of space for a frame bag and unbeatable Tumbleweed reliability that their customers and fans have come to expect.

Nice. A Fargo for those of us that don’t want carbon.

Not the fork. Fargo no longer offers a steel fork.

You are correct, I thought that you meant frame only. I actually swapped out my steel fork for a carbon on my Fargo. Didn’t care for quick release, 15x100mm, and odd rack mounts. I prefer the rake mounts on the side, so I used a Cutthroat Carbon Deluxe fork. I now can swap front tires between my Fargo and Cutthroat.
